What is your timeline resolution in Premiere Pro?

What is the resolution of your PNG? If smaller, it looks like the pixels are defining where the effect may appear. If the PNG is smaller, re-open it in Photoshop and enlarge the canvas to the same size as your Premiere Pro timeline resolution.

That is, if you are working on a 1920×1080 timeline in Premiere Pro, make sure the canvas of your PNG is also 1920×1080, even though you are only adding empty space.

So rather than have one stereo track, you want dual mono tracks?

Easiest way is to modify audio tracks after capture. Right-click the clip ion the bin that you would like to change how the audio tracks are handled, and select “modify –> audio channels”

Then you can change the audio channel setup to your preference. Use a particular setup a great deal? Save it as a preset. I even have a preset entitled “no audio, please”.

Also, what effects, if any, are in use? Certain effects, like denoisers, can really increase the number-crunching time.

Here’s a couple of possibilities.

You could eliminate the dissolve. This would require you to slightly extend each shot by slowing each down a little bit, if you need to maintain the total length of both shots. I understand this may not be a practical solution, depending on what is happening in and with your footage.

Treat the two shots as one shot in Premiere. To adjust the degree of zoom, simply place keyframes at the beginning and end of the dissolve. The zoom may then appear to be part of the transition effect to the viewer who doesn’t know any better.

Finally, conceal the change with a transition to white or something similar. The folks at Filmimpact.net offer a free Transition Pack for Premiere Pro. It is a stripped-down version of their full pack, but offers a good set of tools to have in the Premiere Pro Effects tab. Go to “plug-ins”, select “TransitionPack 1” and click on “download demo” at the bottom of the page. They are fully functional without watermarks, and one of these might help “conceal” what you have to do here.

Hi Winnie. It seems like you are asking two questions. First question seems to be about what to transcode to in order to edit in FCP with files coming (I presume) from a Windows PC.

Then the second question appears to be what format to complete your final render in for playback.

Is this right?

I only see one hard drive listed. Do you have a system drive and a separate media drive? If not, you will continue to be disappointed.

You can open the reference monitor and latch it to program. It will not refresh in real time, but will show you waveform or other scopes in pause.

I do not know a way of latching it to the source monitor. (I’m looking at CC 2013.) If there is a way, perhaps someone will chime in.
