  • “Log and Capture” in Premiere Pro….P2 Cards… basic question

Posted by Gary Goldblum on March 5, 2016 at 12:52 am

    Hi,

I’m making the switch from FCP7 to Premiere Pro and am confused by importing footage from P2 cards. In FCP7 you selected the files within the Log and Capture menu, and copied it over (to a hard drive). Final Cut Pro created quicktime movies on the scratch disc. I can import my P2 footage into Premiere Pro, but I want to copy them as files onto a hard drive, and dismount the cards.

    How do I do this?

    Thanks,

    Thanks!

Copy the whole card with the folder structure intact in their own folders like CARD1, CARD2 etc. Then use the media browser-panel in Premiere to import the footage.

    Tero has it exactly right.

    System:
    Dell Precision T7600 (x2)
    Win 7 64-bit
    32GB RAM
Adobe CC 2014 (as of 7/2015)
    256GB SSD system drive
4 internal media drives RAID 5
Typically cutting short form from HD MP4 and P2 MXF.

    Thank you!

This is different that FCP7 which makes a stand alone Quicktime movie when importing.

    You rock

    Thanks!

Adobe also offers Prelude as part of the suite.

Prelude is sort of like the Log and capture function of FCP, but it does a bit more and is stand alone from PPro.

It allows “partial” ingest, which would create a new file on the way in.

So there are a lot of choices depending on the work you need to do…
