Hi Duke. I know you do not have extensive lighting kit at your disposal, so I want you to know this is not a critique of your approach. You are having fun and enjoying the challenge of your personal projects and that is terrific.

Just a note here that this discussion emphasizes how important lighting is to production. The laws of physics can (and do) work against us in some situations such as yours, so we must bring tools to bear that give us the ability to “bend” those laws in our favor.

You will likely have to accept some quality compromises to get that look you are hoping for, given what you have to work with. Again, no critique, just conversing.

It’s OK Ida, we don’t think you’re lazy.

We know your original file is mts (mpeg transport stream), but we don’t know anything about your computer, or what version of Adobe software you are using; that would help.

An mts file is certainly not one of the better files to edit with. You may with to consider using Media Encoder to convert to another file type for the purpose of editing, then render that out to your final deliverable file type.

Hello Sophie. What are the settings for your timeline in Premiere Pro, and what are the export settings you are using when you create your file in After Effects?

I don’t edit from media cards for all the reasons above as well.

With that said, since some camera recording systems are highly picky about that sort of thing, why chance it? Besides, It is a good practice to check the media card content first, and if ready to re-use, format it. No more issue.

First thing I would do is attach a second monitor again to get control.

Saving particular Workspaces may help with this. You’ll need a two-monitor Workspace and a single-monitor Workspace.

In your two-monitor Workspace, set it up so the Windows menus portion of the layout (if you on a Windows machine) is always in monitor 1. That way, if you forget to change Workspaces before shutting down, you can access the menus on the restart and change to the one-monitor Workspace.

Bob, I hear your frustration. It is clearly distressing you quite a bit.

Have you tried doing it in Audition to see if you get better results? I’m with you – I do not always want to make the round-trip into another application. But sometimes the PPro built-in FX aren’t up to the particular task-at-hand, and the trip to another app needs to happen.

You may have already done this, of course. Just wanted you to know you were heard.
