Clearing cache indeed might help. If the Windows update made any changes to audio/video drivers, that could also make things get funky.

Also, get at least 8GB more RAM. Yes, it’ll run on 8GB, as you know. Some bottlenecks will be relieved with 16GB.

Only 8GB of RAM is a contributor for certain. We think, “It shouldn’t make THAT much difference.” It does.
If your original footage is highly compressed codecs such as h.264, mts, etc. – these put a lot of additional load “on the fly” to compress and play back. Transcoding to a less-compressed codec can help with this for editing.
USB 3 is better than nothing, but SATA (or eSATA) or Thunderbolt will generally perform better. The real question is – is your USB controller *and* your external drives USB 3.0 or 3.1? There is quite a difference between the two in terms of maximum theoretical throughput.

How much memory you have is missing form your computer specs. In addition, it would be essential to know what storage you have and how it is connected.

Hi Nathan. I can’t speak to any specifics, as I am not a Mac user. But without system specs and the version of Adobe CC you’re using, no one can really offer any substantial help.
I always suggest folks put that info in their signature, so you (almost) never have to type it again.

Marwan, please give us more information. We need to know what version of the Adobe software you are using, and the wrapper/codec of your video/audio clips. In addition, let us know if you recently upgraded to a new version.
In addition, tell us about your computer. What OS, how much RAM, your storage setup, etc. I keep all this information in my signature, so whenever I post, folks who respond have all the info.

What Shane (and others) have said. The specs provided at least suggest they plan some pokery-jiggery with content after receiving it.
If you get good communication going, you can learn their nefarious plans, add it to your workflow, and ensure the quality of your work across the board.

I cannot say for sure, as I have never tried it. I can only suggest that *perhaps* it is possible when authoring using Adobe Encore. It is EOL, of course, but still available. I think you install Premiere CS6 and it comes along for the ride.
