May 17, 2019 at 10:38 am in reply to: Training for Premiere & Video Editing In General?

I would start with free, doing some searches on YouTube, Vimeo, etc. Adobe also has video online for learning techniques and tools. Folks have made different tutorials over the years here on the Cow. Some of these have aged out over the years, but may still be helpful. THen there’s resources like lynda.com.

I imagine others will chime in with more.

    System:
    Dell Precision T7600 (x2)
    Win 7 64-bit
    32GB RAM
Adobe CC 2017.1 (as of 8/2017)
    256GB SSD system drive
4 internal media drives RAID 5
Typically cutting short form from UHD MP4, HD MP4, and HD P2 MXF.

  • There’s an After Effects template out there (I think it is part of the Storyblocks library) that creates various kinds of transitions, including panning transitions. They are all really still cuts, of course. But a cut no one sees isn’t a cut.

You can also fake it with a horizontal push, using an object such as a post or wall butt (real or virtual) that is isolated and keyed in over the vertical cut line.

Creating the illusion of no cuts is just that – illusion. Actually having no cuts is just an exercise.

I’m with Dave. Most likely it is variable frame rate and you will have to re-process the files before import into PPro. This is typical. Premiere (and many other NLE’s) do not like variable frame rate.

What is the original media source? Camera? Phone? What make/model? What is the wrapper and codec?

We can only make wild guesses without this information.

Yes, theoretically, it could be a variable frame rate issue. This is not a PPro malfunction.

    Dell Precision T7600 (x2)

  • And stuff like this is why I still use legacy titler a lot.

Just to be sure I understand – these are intended to be full screen elements, correct?

Are you dragging from the bin straight to the timeline, or going through the preview monitor? Preview gives you the option of insert or overwrite using the period and comma keys, if you have the default keyboard mapping.

Yes, the provided iPhone app will shoot variable frame ate video. To avoid sadness in post, do not use that.

  • Tell us more about your media storage, media wrapper, and codec.

May 5, 2019 at 12:35 pm in reply to: Export Settings for Projector

My (admittedly quick) search found an ability to transfer network info to bring back to a computer, or photo slide shows, using USB, but not direct video playback.

    System:
    Dell Precision T7600 (x2)
    Win 7 64-bit
    32GB RAM
Adobe CC 2017.1 (as of 8/2017)
    256GB SSD system drive
4 internal media drives RAID 5
Typically cutting short form from UHD MP4, HD MP4, and HD P2 MXF.

  • First, 16GB of ram is a bit low. 32GB would be better.

Second, when you say you “updated” Adobe CC, is that a fresh install of existing version (for example CC 2017 or 2018), or latest version upgrade (2019)?

    System:
    Dell Precision T7600 (x2)
    Win 7 64-bit
    32GB RAM
Adobe CC 2017.1 (as of 8/2017)
    256GB SSD system drive
4 internal media drives RAID 5
Typically cutting short form from UHD MP4, HD MP4, and HD P2 MXF.
