Are you in Cs3 or CS4?
CS3… start a new project with the correct Seq settings and import the old project, whallah.

CS4… make a new seq with the correct seq and copy and paste the entire edit from the original to the correct seq, let us know if this is not the solution.

Hi Tash,
Provided your black backgrounds truly are black this can be done in Premiere.
Using the “Crop” effect you can reveal the smallest amount of needed space, the part of the video you want to keep. This allows you to crop all the shots enough so they can move over each other to create the illusion that there are multiple people on screen at the same time.
To animate them looking like they are hovering will take some time and animated keyframes on the position property. (Look up keyframes and animation for more detailed help).
Finally, I’d create a Back ground for the clips to sit over (BG clip is on Track 1 all other clips go above that and each one that is stacked on top to have multiple clips interacting at the same time will “stack” on top of each other. So if you have 3 people clips that you want to appear on screen at the same time will require 4 tracks stacked on top of each other with the BG layer being on Track 1.
There are two ways to do this. As Video will always create some kind of ‘grain’ in blacks a flat black colour might not “sell”. The first thing you could do is to crush the blacks using the three-way color corrector. Change the “tonal range” to ‘Master’ and then under that move the black triangle on the “input levels” over the right until the blacks look true black. Do this to all the clips, they might all need a slightly different amount of black input.
Last thing to do is make a New Black Video. File>New>Black Video…
When the pop up for the frame size and frame rate appears make sure they match the properties of your project (check that by selecting the sequence Icon in the project panel then right click and select the properties… Check the frame size would be some number x number DV PAL is 720×576, then check the frame rate PAL is 25fps. If the values here are the same when you make a new black video click OK.
Add this to layer 1 and all the other clips above each other starting from layer 2. The Black BG might not needed, but it’s there for safety.

Cineform is not proxy workflow – it’s another format that maintains quality. So you wouldn’t use it as a proxy workflow you would edit the files and use them as the online too.

DV or miniDV is the same signal, just recorded to a different size tape = different recording lengths. A Full size DV tape can record 4 hours because there is the space for the length of tape. A mini DV is a smaller tape and only holds enough tape to record 62 mins.
Sampling is 4:1:1 in DVCPro. DV,DVCAM and HDV is 4:2:0. Beta is 4:2:2 SP or Digi. DVCPRO50 is SD res at 4:2:2 and DVCPRO100 is HD res (1280×1080) at 4:2:2.

FCP is just Quicktime on steroids. MPEGs won’t work in FCP you have got to convert all the MPEG files into Quicktime Mov files for FCP to like it. It’s not about codecs it’s about conversion.

The Black Magic codecs won’t help you with Apple only codecs. You’ll need to convert them to something that PC will like – Black Magic codec would work, or even Pro Res. You may need to get them converted from a Mac though. Look for Apple codec converters for PCs.

What version of Quicktime do you have on your system? You may have to either update it or roll back a version. I have 7.5 on mine and that seems to have worked fine.

You are dealing with an Apple intermediate codec, so on Windows you are pretty much stuck. Someone around was saying they used I think Raylight to get FCP converted P2 footage to work on a Windows system.
If you have the original CONTENTS folder and all the originally recording folder/file structure you can edit with that in CS4.
Try looking around. this is not a new problem. Thanks to Apple.
You’ll find you either need a mac, buy raylight, or get someone with a FCP system to completely convert all the footage to something that is cross platform, like ProRes or Uncompressed.
