Relax Markus,
it’s a playback only quality setting you aren’t losing any real quality to the original clips. Right click on the program panel (picture) and select quality, it will be set to auto, change it to high quality and it will stay at high when u hit play. If your system isn’t quick enough you might see dropped frames. I always edit with auto because it’s less stress on my system while editing. It doesn’t affect the exports. 😉

Tim is correct. We didn’t have AAF support with first release. The 4.0.1 update gave it back but as we are in 4.2 now it’s been back for a while. Run 1 of the cs4 apps and go to help>updates… Close your app and let the updated download and install everything it wants to.

The date and time data is not something that is brought into viewable metadata.

If playback is not smooth then there could an issue with different frame rates. Happy says you are working with 30fps. Be sure the timeline and export settings march that. Your codec is xvid -which is heavily compressed. You are never going to get great exports from it. That’s just the mathematics of compression especially xvid/divx codecs.

What codec are you exporting too?
if it’s DV then you are going to have considerably larger files sizes.
You’ll want to use a H.264 codec I’d say. But you must always consider that you are recompressing a compressed image so you will lose quality unless you go to uncompressed but then you’ll be really upset with the file size!

Are you sure that the timeline panel has been selected with the orange highlight around it before you go to File>Export…

If you are on a PC you need to convert the material into something PC friendly like uncompressed. If you are on a Mac then you will need to have FCP installed also. If that’s not working you need to convert them for PPro as the QT HDV is a Mac FCP only format – Thanks Apple.

Add the “linear wipe” transition effect to the top stacked clip and set the paramters to 50% completion for a middle crossover. set the wipe angle to around the 135 mark or the angle you like the look of best. then set the feather amount to soften the diagonal split.
