  • Read QT HDV files in Premiere?

Posted by Warren Morningstar on November 17, 2009 at 12:32 am

I have some 50-60 hours of footage originally captured on Firestore drives in QT HDV for use in Final Cut. I now need to re-edit some of that footage in CS4. However, Premiere can’t import the files because a “codec is missing.” What codec am I looking for, or is there a way to bring the footage into Premiere without transcoding it all to something else?

    Thanks.

If you are on a PC you need to convert the material into something PC friendly like uncompressed. If you are on a Mac then you will need to have FCP installed also. If that’s not working you need to convert them for PPro as the QT HDV is a Mac FCP only format – Thanks Apple.

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH! That’s a lot of footage to convert. Well, lesson learned. Next time, we’ll agree on a format we both can use.

Thanks very much for the info. I would have thought that if Apple makes ProRes available to the Windows world, they would the other codecs as well.

Check the MainConcept site; they may have a solution.

    Hi Warren,

Check out our Calibrated{Q} XD Decode – it should allow you to import the QT HDV MOV files in most applications.

there’s a demo with watermarks you can download to try out.

    Thanks, Greg.
Tested it and it works as advertised in CS4. Ordered it and am working with it now. Will save me a huge amount of time in not having to transcode the files to something else.

Greg… Saw this and downloaded QXD and the MXF Importer. I ran both, rebooted… to import QT HD files (shot on a Firestore) into PP3. Nothing changed. Am I missing something?
