Have you tried to convert the file in iTunes and then import that into Soundbooth or Premiere?
This is the first I’ve ever heard of this situation. So you can understand my re-visiting the possibility it’s not recorded properly. Getting Left and Right channels wrong is not a complicated piece of code, so the program can’t be making this error without something else happening.

Have you tried to export the timeline?
The files being 300dpi is not right for video as it onlu uses 72dpi. Try changing and unlinking and relinking the photos that have issues to 72dpi proxies.

what kind of audio file is it? mp3?

I can only assume the photos you are using are large size in pixels. That will slow the process down. If you want to see all the images in the timeline you’ll need to export it out, make notes go back to your project and make the adjustments that way. Keep the Video Quality Settings in the monitor on Automatic.

Do you have any mp3 or large size images in the project? These will cause issues if the mp3 file is not constant bitrate. Images too big will crash the program too. Make smaller versions of them.
But…
I would first use the Project ‘Remove unused’ feature. To remove all the footage you don’t need.
I work on bigger projects time to time (on one right now) and the over an hour is usually broken up into 20-30min projects that get sewn together with an AVI export of each project into another one for assessment.

I’d say that the audio file recorded incorrectly.
Despite what your audio guy tells you if this file opens and play wrong in QT Player too the audio is recorded with the channels in the wrong oway.

I wouldn’t bother with After Effects. No difference in quality. You should have shot it. Doing things in post is based on tests in pre-production and then knowing how to best do it with the camera.
For the SD project Work in Uncompressed for best possible result.

If you use HD in an SD project you’ll get a better result. But you are still restricted by the pixel count. HD and HDV are not all that high quality for zooming in – sorry if you thought different. Try using the clip in an SD project see how that looks. If you like it you can export that SD one and then import the SD version into the HD project and make sure it is fit to scale by right clicking on it when in the timeline.

What is the project type?
Your graphics card might need updating the driver.
AMD chip might have something to do with it?
The project settings will play a part. Let me know what they are I’ll try to replicate the issue?

Does this problem repeat if the file is converted to WAV in another program then imported into PProCS3.
I work on both Platforms with PProCS3 and haven’t run into this problem. I do however work between both alot and have most audio files in WAV format so I thought this might have something to do with it?
