Select multiple clips, make sure the tracks the clips are in are highlighted (video 1, video 2, etc). Goto Sequence>Apply default transitions to selection.

CS3 you’ll want to razor cut by the position of the CTI. Ctl+K (Apple+K on Mac). If you lock layers you don’t want cut you only cut everything else. This function you want (select/highlight multiple tracks) is in CS4.

1st. You should not expect problems. the HDV tape must be captured into the computer with a HDV camera/deck. although the tape is miniDV standard miniDV camera’s won’t be able to read it, unless they set the recording format to DV. Chances are it’s in HDV.
When you do capture – the screen won’t show as you capture it’s part of the way it uses less system cpu to capture and encode the HDV signal. Not a problem.
2nd. The effect you are trying to get is something you want to use an FX program for really like After Effects. Check http://www.videocopilot.net for a tutorial on how to fake day for night.

I agree with the last post. images will choke up premiere if they are large sizes with 300dpi. Screen resolution is only 72dpi and premiere tries to retranslate the 300dpi into a 72dpi which make the pixel size of the image/s way bigger than they are at 300dpi in PShop.

I run CS3 on laptop C2Duo F3 Gaming Asus and work all day. Large projects like over an hour of edited material can get big. HD based projects also need to be worked on in smaller chunks, but that’s common practice.

I’m doubting the builds of your systems. I had a system built for Matrox RTX100 years ago. It worked, still does. 😉 I recommended the same build guy to a colleague and his ssytem which spec’d out the same as mine was fraught with booting problems. This builder refused to admit he’d built it poorly and I have never said a good thing about this builder again. In fact it turned out this builder was well known for providing work for competitors as he built systems that were unstable even though he was certified.

I’ve heard great things about Axio so if you’re needing to reboot more than once a day, I’d be doubting the components of the system… Motherboard could be not right for the Matrox Card? If it’s overclocked that makes it unstable. Bad RAM, not enough? Graphics card on lower end of spec for system? Other apps that might be running in BG like Virus/Malware scanners…

October 16, 2008 at 10:40 pm in reply to: Exporting to HDCam framerate

I have to extend my opinions here with Tim. I think you should have the 24fps timeline in a Comp inside AE. Run some tests in exporting out the head (30 Seconds), and then at the tail (last 30 sec) with the audio embedded into the same 24fps based Comp so you can see that it all syncs up ends to ends.
Exporting the top and tail tests with a 23.976 frame rate should show the sync slip if its occurring in the AE comp. You could nest the original 24fps comp into a 23.976 comp. Then do another test export of the top and tail 30 sec.
It seems there is a slight squashing of time in the vision frame rate which is easier to work with than trying expand and invent new frame information. I’d play with confirming the sync and then exporting in AE to an uncompressed format (huge file sizes, but only way to be sure you are going to get to matrox without loss). Once you have the uncompressed format version that is a 23.976 fps clip it should be a matter of exporting that to the matrox based codec.
These are just theories and not practiced methods. AE would be your best chance to convert the frame rates. I noticed you are using PPro1.5 that’s a very old app now, newer versions might not share the same problems?

You won’t get very good quality video from a webcam, but you can use Windows Movie Maker.

I saw the specs in the first post and it appears that you are trying to use a G5 mac to run PPro. It will not run on a G5 as they don’t have intel CPUs. You need an Intel Chip based Mac to run PPro and it’s affiliate programs, like EncoreDVD.

October 11, 2008 at 11:47 pm in reply to: Survey about CS4…

Why do I need to render anything nowadays? Don’t we simply do the cuts and when done, render it out? Do you actual render while working on the timeline?

    Perry

    Perry,

I don’t know the needs you have of your production workflow, but I generally have several projects on the run at any given time. I would love to hit render form one program and then continue working on another project – with CS4 I can do that.

Sounds like you need to wait until CS4 has been out for a while and you hear about similar prod co’s upgrade experiences before you fork out the money.

My reasons for upgrade are mine. I’m not saying it should be for you. Please don’t use this space to bash my comments for why I would upgrade to push your own disapproval of the tools you’ve already invested in.

October 10, 2008 at 6:08 am in reply to: Exporting Multiple Sequences In A Batch

    Upgrade to CS4.
Adobe Media Encoder is a batch list based self contained application now. You can do exactly what you are asking in CS4, no special plugins or need for AE.
