    Hi everyone,

I’ve just been picked to edit a short horror film and the makers would like footage shot in daytime to look like it was shot at night. I assume that there is a filter-based method of doing this in Premiere CS3, but I’m not quite sure as to how to go about it. Would anyone know a good way of achieving this effect?

Secondly,(though this probably should have been firstly!) they inform me that it was shot on Sony HD straight to DV tape at 1080i. Is this a format that PPCS3 will handle natively or should I be expecting problems?

    Many thanks,

    Jamie . . .

1st. You should not expect problems. the HDV tape must be captured into the computer with a HDV camera/deck. although the tape is miniDV standard miniDV camera’s won’t be able to read it, unless they set the recording format to DV. Chances are it’s in HDV.
When you do capture – the screen won’t show as you capture it’s part of the way it uses less system cpu to capture and encode the HDV signal. Not a problem.
2nd. The effect you are trying to get is something you want to use an FX program for really like After Effects. Check http://www.videocopilot.net for a tutorial on how to fake day for night.

    Hi, John.

Thanks so much for that. I forgot to mention that the footage will already have been captured to an external drive for transfer onto my internal, so capturing won’t be an issue at all.

Many thanks for the link to VideoCopilot, too. Andrew Kramer is a genius!
