A Raid requires multiple hard drives being used as one single drive… I don’t think you can get more than one drive into your laptop so you’ll need a separate RAID tower which will need to powered on its own and will be heavy and large. There are expensive RAID portable drives, again they are a separate external drive and require extra USB or AC power to work properly.

Keying in PPro is actually not simple by any stretch of the imagination if you want it looking good.
You need to understand the concept of grey scale levels of what’s masked out using white to keep info, black to make transparent and grey to keep some amounts of info based on how bright or dark the grey is.
Once this idea is understood, you can use blurs to take hard found edges, white against black, to blur the shades into a form of soft grey. You will need to use nesting and multiple layers looking down on each other. One clip dedicated to gaining the majority of info, another one for finding edges with ‘find edges’ effect. You can use the colour correction effects to show a masked version of a selected secondary colour, namely the green or blue BG. It’s not as simple as using AE with Keylight.

We understand the stress of this kind of situation. It sounds like your employer is old-school and doesn’t really understand that going back to tape doesn’t really keep quality and is no good if you have cross fades or effects on shots that the client wants to replace, because the effects and transitions are locked in. you have to find the original tape it was recorded on and replace all and any associated clips with the transition to the ‘new’ one and you need to match the effects, colour corrections etc that were applied to match the other shots.
There are too ways to do this. The easiest by far is the most obvious.
1. Buy another TB harddrive. Start working on your new projects with this drive. Or, copy older stuff without removing anything to the new drive and name the drive backup. Then delete the older stuff from the original drive. It’s a longer process and you’ll need to defrag the original drive.
2. Make a full quality (not recompressed DV i guess) final export of the entire project as a reference. Then, provided you have the original tapes of all the footage, timecode was never broken and the tape names were labeled and logged properly on capture you can delete the captured files, which are the bulk of any project size. The project files will remain in tact and have all the effects/transitions and shots used when and where it just need to recapture. If there are several shots that need replacing open the project. All clips will be offline. Import and lay down the reference clip above the edit. Pin point the parts they want changed. Find those shots and recapture just those bits and the surrounding clips for transitions. All recaptured offline versions will update and use them in the timeline as they were affected with any effects/transitions. Then copy the part/s from the edited bit that need replacing and paste them on top of the ref file. Effectively you’re replacing just the bits that needed it. Reexport for final DVD.
The problem with this method is that you can’t find the replacing shot without having to recapture that whole part of the tape to see it and find it.I would go with option 1.

I’m running on an Asus laptop with dedicated Gfx and its been beautiful so far. I did reinstall windows with SP2+SP3+any updates and have not got anything CS3 on it.

That’s cool Jiri. I figured it might have been something like that. I’m really unsure why so many editors are obsessed with using no mouse. I’ve been cutting for nearly 10 years and find the combination of mouse with my right hand and keyboard shortcuts with my left, with the occasional two hands for shortcuts is fine. Some short-cuts are faster to just use the mouse anyway.
What did the poor mouse do to deserve such avoidance?

But that’s hardly selecting the clip, and it’s been in CS3, so…
What was in CS3? Selecting a clip is either done my mouse or done by mouse. there is no keyboard shortcut to “select” a clip.
They way you use the mark clip feature in FCP or Avid is to mark the in and out points surrounding the clip the playhead is over. that allows you to either extract or lift whatever lies between the in and out points on the timeline. this is all done with actually selecting the clips. No mouse. PProCS4 does exactly the same things as the other two NLEs. Neither actually select the clip for you.
the feature clearly states exactly what it does.
Mark Clip shortcut – Mark clips more quickly using an assignable keyboard shortcut.You can alter the shortcut (shift+/) to be anything you want it to be just like any other shortcut in the keyboard shortcut list.
If I have misinterpreted your message, please explain what you want the feature to do?

Oh, and for Jon Barrie – this is not whining about what features Premiere should have. This is clearly stated on their website as a new feature.

Effectively yes. You need to have the right kind of codec for editing… but yes. I think you need to be clearer on your reason for doing this. You might be able to nest a sequence instead and save time and hard drive space from rendering and re-importing…
