linking audio and video files in adobe premiere pro 2
so i have put together different movies clips and want to link them up with music. i don’t know how to link them up since before they were not previously linked in any way. Everytime i try and select all of the video and audio files in the timeline and go to link them under clip, the link is grey and can’t be pressed. anybody know how to solve this problem?

A link can only occur when there is 1 audio and 1 video clip selected. If you want to select a mass of clips and have them move together as a finished group you can group them. Links only work with the single video and single audio so that it can safely maintain sync and notify when there is loss of sync. If there are more than one video clip associated with sync the formula becomes more complex so Adobe don’t have the feature work that way.

so once i group all of the video and audio clips then i should be able to export them as one movie file?

To export a single video file of your edited timeline. You only need to select the timeline panel and go to File>Export>Movie or Adobe Media Encoder…
There is no need to select the clips you’ve edited. It will render everything in the time line…so to speak.Jon Barrie

that is to say can i export all of the video files to a file that adobe supports making it one file and then re-import it in and link it with the audio?

Effectively yes. You need to have the right kind of codec for editing… but yes. I think you need to be clearer on your reason for doing this. You might be able to nest a sequence instead and save time and hard drive space from rendering and re-importing…

so i have multiple clips from a star wars movie and am trying to link it up with a certain metallica song. I already unlinked the movie audio and deleted it and set up how i want it to look for a movie. Now i just need to figure out how to export the entire thing (the multiple clips put together my way and the metallica song). when i try and just export the movie both video and audio it gives me two different files, one for audio and one for video. how can i get the two to be linked and just make one movie with both the audio and video.

i hope that helps a little clear things up. also i have been using the 3ivx codec in adobe b/c that seems to be the only one that works. how can i make sure that when i export the movie it will run without losing resolution on a friends computer who might not have 3ivx.
