How do you have your anti-aliasing set up? That can be a big part of it as can the scale you work at (ie: 66% or 50% vs. 100%). Photoshop will feather the edges of the marquee if you set it up that way. Double-check your preferences.

Ok, you are seeing differences between files size and the “uncompressed” size in RAM. 246.7kB should be the compressed file size ON DISK, BUT 2.93MB is the memory size. Calculated by:
800px x 1280 px x 3 channels (RGB) / 1024 / 1024 = 2.93MB
JPEG compression will significantly reduce this at 75% quality by simply tossing out the stuff it doesn’t need or want.

Well, it should deliver SOME sheen even with heavy toner, but it won’t be as good as a print shop can deliver. Your best bet is to have them printed or pay the $.49 a copy to print at Kinkos or look at VistaPrint and other online printers.
If you have more than a few to print up, talk to printers in town. Look also for quick printers who will basically use a high end inkjet or dye sub printer to print your stuff for xyz a copy (they wrap the setup cost into the per-unit price). If you take into account the cost of the printer, toner, paper, electricity, time spent, etc., it’s usually cheaper to hire a printer unless you are doing a LOT of printing. And you can always get cheap prints from Costco and a ton of other places online.

Sounds like it’s filling the empty space with the alpha. What is your workflow (step by step if you can) and can you post an example?

The problem is that laser toner isn’t glossy. It’s a sort of waxy matte finish – kinda like a crayon. No matter what paper you use, the toner will still be the same. Inkjet ink is different: it transmits light differently and will reproduce the glossy better from the paper.

In Illustrator or Photoshop, it should be pretty basic. I would think it would take a few seconds in photoshop or illustrator. Just create the image, lay down your colors and add a Gaussian blur. Have you tried this?

Hey there, most DSLRs have issues with mics and audio in general. I highly recommend getting something to record external audio (like a Zoom H2, H4n or similar external recorder) – the $ you spend on it will make up for itself by giving you cleaner audio.

A banner really doesn’t need to use 300 resolution because its designed to be viewed at a distance (300 is great for magazines designed to be viewed up close). Try 100-150 instead.

I’m not real familiar with Photoshop’s animation tools (I prefer other apps). I hope this isn’t for a class because, if it is, your instructor is a sadist! 😉
Can you draw the entire line, set up specific keyframes at the points you want the line(s) duplicated, then duplicate just those frames on another layer, further along the time line? In my head, it works like After Effects or Flash, but I am likely wrong as it doesn’t seem to work like that in PS.

Sounds like it would make a great new script or app for photoshop. 🙂
I don’t know of any way to make the gradient automatically, but I have done it manually on many occasions and it’s really not that difficult. I’m happy to provide a quick tut if you like. Just say the word while its still Thanksgiving here and I still have time. 😉
