  • Can I create a color gradient… from a selection?

Here’s something I’ve been longing to do, but (surprisingly) PHOTOSHOP has no native way to do it.

See the selection I’ve made on this photograph? (I stroked the selection in order to make it visible for this screencap). I would love to instantaneously create a color gradient that picks up all the colors (or key or averaged colors) from top-to-bottom of this vertical selection.

Laboriously, I could use the eyedropper tool to select some colors down the selection… But I wish there were a way to instantly get a gradient of these colors… that conceivably I could draw in somewhere else in my photo.

Am I making sense? Any workaround to achieve this effect?

    Thanks, David Lincoln Brooks

Sounds like it would make a great new script or app for photoshop. 🙂

I don’t know of any way to make the gradient automatically, but I have done it manually on many occasions and it’s really not that difficult. I’m happy to provide a quick tut if you like. Just say the word while its still Thanksgiving here and I still have time. 😉

    Save early. Save often.
