This has always seemed strange to me as it seems like it should be a simple thing. I find Boris Titler frustrating too. The tab stops never seem to work the way I want them to. Hopefully these issues will be addressed in a future version as it would really help me out a lot.

    Thanks for all the responses.

Sorry I should have given some more details. We’re working in SD over an Xsan. The issue seems to be a slight animation in the drop-shadow itself and the numbers of layers. Two layers is okay, three cause the problem. Precomping seems to help but shouldn’t be necessary in my mind. All my elements are created directley within Final Cut. Am I alone in the feeling that FCPs text tools (including Boris 3d) could really use some work?

The image itself is PSD file at 360×540 with no alpha channel, just a press photo against white. Simply changing the image format to a Tif or Tga did the trick. Having an oversized psd file would I suppose also work. Thanks for all the advice.

Yes, it displays in the broadcast monitor as well. It is like a thin double line that always the size of the bounding box.

Thanks so much! Worked like a charm, I need to keep the pref files in mind when I run into glitches like that.

  • I think that is I was confused with; adjustment layers breaking up 3D elements. Thanks for the all the responses, I ended up just pre-rendering elements instead. It worked fine but doesn’t give me the flexabality to change camera moves. Maybe the mechanics of breaking up an adjustment layer isn’t possible but it would be a nice feature in a future version of AE.

  • Maybe it was all dream, but I’m so certain that there was something about a certain kind of layer breaking up the render order. I will try precomping with Continious Raster on and hopefully that will work. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

Yes, actually that is a sensible (and now that I think about it obvious thing to do) I like the shift+select from the drop down I just wish you could select one item from the drop down and then shift select another item 10 down and get all the items inbetween. Thanks again for the time and advice.

I’m trying to position the objects in the setup window itself. I have an AFX camera moving around in the comp I created. I have so many little bits and pieces and I cannot marquee select the items and I need the light stand to move over a little bit to the right in realtionship with the other object I have created. I understand sets (thanks to a tutorial I think you posted) but that is more for animating the objects in the comp itself is it not? I tried asigning my light-stand elements to a different layer set and then deselecting. But when I reselected the layer set from the pulldown it didn’t reselect all the objects.

Sorry if I am not being clear, I appreciate the help.

Thanks I’ll give it a try, I didn’t even think of adding a ground object.
