    Todd,
First, thanks for the time to respond.
I’m pretty sure there is no way to fix the low end camera issue, either. Each time the record restarts though, there is a loss (gap) of a few frames. (You can switch from the AVCHD to an MP4 codec and get longer record times, but, am afraid the quality loss would be noticeable.)
Those few frames cause a lot of lining up clips manually on the timeline and the usual time to get this done is 30-45 minutes according to past editor. Plural eyes is certainly an option I’m looking at hard.
I usually edit FCPX, but, I had to get Premiere due to the AVCHD codec, which has to be converted for FCPX and not for Premiere. And time is of the essence as this is a weekly show with a tight deadline, so conversion times are not acceptable.
I will certainly talk to the client about a camera upgrade somewhere down the line!!

There is an old 2009 log and transfer plug in for fcp7, and there is something called clip manager (which i downloaded and seems to suck)
Gotta believe there is a way to do this without manually converting sh**tons of clips for days. So, trying to avoid 3rd party apps, if possible. Just can’t find anything current by JVC.
Decades in the business and really feeling like a newbie!

They are about 2 1/2 years worth of footage transferred to a rugged Lacie Drive. It appears he tried to keep the file structure in tact. So far, all of the apps I find are for FCP7. Still trying to find something for FCPX on Sierra.

I’m looking at the AJA TTAP as a 709 monitor output for FCPX on iMac.
I wouldn’t mind one of their fancy I/O boxes, but will have to avoid the cost for now if the TTAP will work.

April 21, 2017 at 1:50 am in reply to: So anyway FCPX Users, how’s things?

The last time I touched FCPX was the week it was initially released. I was installing a system for a church who had ordered FCP7 and during the ordering and installation phase, Apple pulled the plug and the rest is history. (Despite placing the order, Apple would not deliver the FCP Suite to us, Grrrrr, anyway, I’m over it.)
So we downloaded the original FCPX and I had to learn as much as possible in one day, then turn around and teach it to a former
Premiere user. Even though I have decades on Avid, Smoke, Premier, Discreet Edit (remember that one), and linear editing, I actually liked the speed and fluidity of “X”. It slightly reminded me of a long ago NLE called Speed Razor.
Fast forward to today, and I’m getting ready to upgrade my 8 year old iMac/FCS3 and get a new iMac/FCPX. Been browsing the forum communities so see what folks say about this idea, and would appreciate any advise/warnings/whatever anyone would have the time to share. I know it will shift my paradigm, but look forward to the challenge and watching a lot of tutorials.

Most of my work will be HD so 4K is not really an issue at this point.
So, I’m looking at a brand new iMac, as much Ram and CPU as practical and a way to attach an external video monitor via Thunderbolt II.

I’m not at NAB this year and maybe even kinda sorta miss it.
So…any comments, if so inclined. Thanks.

Not so sure about that. I’m an editor/compositor/graphic design person. I’m guessing there are a few like me that may have used a good map creating software. Many years ago I used one, can’t recall the name of it though. But this time I’m hoping to get one that can do some 3D??

Avid has a MacBook Air as a qualified machine now. Just curious as to whether it has the necessary “guts” to work well.
Thanks for letting me know about the limitation on Matrox Mini…will have to rethink that because there will be some need for tape capture, although most will be tapeless.
I just keep reading more and more doom about the MacBook Pro’s, even with the anticipated update. It seems they’re keeping old technology alive, if I were to believe all that I read?
