External Monitor for iMac FCPX

Late, late, late, but am going to update!!
Coming from 8 years on FCP 7 and decades on Avid/Smoke and other ones I’ve forgotten I’ve decided to shift with the paradigm and try FCPX.
Most of my work will be HD so not terribly worried about 4K right now.
Will put this on as fully loaded iMac as worthy. Obviously going to need external video monitor.
So, who ever can chime in and tell me what box they’re working with and why, would greatly appreciate it.
I imagine that the thunderbolt 2 will be the output needed to convert to HDMI.

Also, how about daisy chaining thunderbolt drives? Is that working well or is it a disaster like the old SCSI daisy chains were?

When you say external video- you mean a REC709 monitor for color grading? Or a secondary computer display for editing GUI?

Blackmagic or AJA for the Thunderbolt i/o hardware and then I would recommend the best 4K broadcast monitor you can afford so you are future-proofed. And I’d suggest a large RAID like Promise or LaCie Big vs many small drives daisy-chained.

Also you might want to wait a week or so- NAB is just about to kick off and typically results in all manner of new product announcement across the industry.

I’m looking at the AJA TTAP as a 709 monitor output for FCPX on iMac.
I wouldn’t mind one of their fancy I/O boxes, but will have to avoid the cost for now if the TTAP will work.

Yep- limited in additional functionality but solid I/O for FCPX.
