There are a number of ways to get Resolve to ‘resolve’ reel numbers from footage, that will have an effect on how the EDL is displayed in the Conform page.

In the Settings page > Master Project Settings go to the Conform options at the bottom of the page, and enable “Assist using reel names from the:”, then choose whichever option you predict will get the best results.

    best,

Agreed – worked with a colleague on some C300 footage when the camera first came out, and even though it was shot by a truly great DP, all complaints I’m hearing in this thread were issues for us, too.

It’s mind-boggling that anyone would buy this for $15k.

I believe the xrite comes with software to write a color profile (icc?) in OSX that can be loaded via system settings. I’m not on a mac right now so not sure of the exact procedure, but I’ve done it before.

I’d go with Scratch or Nuke, Lanczos or Sync filter for the upres.

It’s definitely possible that the difference is in the two OS’ and the two graphics cards. You can solve this with external calibration. I recommend either consulting a professional (I do this, but am located in NYC…), or look into one of the excellent lower cost probes from x-rite. I use the Klein K-10 probe myself, but it’s a lot more expensive.

I think OS is unlikely to be the problem, although the calibration profile in OSX could cause a difference. Is it set to something generic or did you create it with a probe?

Is ‘full range’ explicitly selected in Resolve? Auto can sometimes confuse the issue. Also, is ‘preserve RGB’ selected in the per-clip interpretation settings in AE?

  • Very true, and I’ve used this on a number of projects in the past.

I stopped using it in an early v9 (beta?) version because I couldn’t select multiple clips and have the clip attributes apply to all selected, but I see that works now – thanks for the reminder!

  • Yes please let’s have an option for clip name conform assist in Resolve. It’s fundamental, and can solve a lot of problems with badly formatted EDLs, funky formats, etc… that don’t necessarily do reel names properly.
