You’re getting there but don’t let your eyes be tricked. You have left-to-right motion on your text and he does not. Look carefully at his video. Drop it onto the Vegas timeline and use it as a guide. His text is simply zooming straight back while the wipe goes left to right.

If we use his timings we see the following:

00:00:00 – Start Zoom out and wipe right
00:01:10 – Wipe complete zoom slows down
00:06:29 – Zoom out complete
00:07:00 – Zoom in starts
00;09:21 – Zoom in complete
00:09:22 – Video starts

Your version doesn’t have the text changing speed. You want to zoom fast until the wipe is complete and then slow way down and have it settle in slowly. The text is never still. It moves out until it changes direction and moves in again. Also, make your title all caps. It just looks better and gives more room for the background to show through the text.

You should place the mask on your text track so that the text gets masked and not the background. It looks like he’s using 4 tracks. Your timeline should look something like:

• Track 1: Empty, Parent Motion controls all zooming
• Track 2: Text media, Child of Track 1, Composite Mode: Multiply (Mask), add Pan/Crop Mask
• Track 3: Noise Texture media: Child of Track 2
• Track 4: Solid White media

Since the text background is moving with the text and they are on two separate tracks I assume he has added the 4th top track and made track 2 a child so that both 2 & 3 move together.

Like this:

+Track 1: Parent
+–Track 2: Child of 1
+—-Track 3: Child of 2
+Track 4: Parent

Set your Vegas project to the same size as you will render. Then when you insert generated media, Vegas will create the media at the render size and aspect. You might want to set your project to 1440×900 so that all of the media and video are the same size. To fix this, open the generated media and change it’s size to match the render size or change it to 1440×900 to match the video media.

It looks like the Waves Enigma plug-in isn’t working well with Vegas. Waves has had a lot of problems with something they changed about their plug-ins. Lately I’ve seen a number of people complaining in various fora about compatibility issues with all kinds of host applications not just Vegas. I would contact Waves about it. In the mean time, remove Enigma from your project to get stability back.

The text is zooming out while being revealed by a mask. The two give the illusion that the text is moving left to right but it actually isn’t. It’s just zooming straight back.

This can be accomplished by adding a Negative Mask using the Pan/Crop Bezier Mask tool. In Pan/Crop, check the Mask checkbox on the timline at the bottom and create a rectangular mask that covers the entire frame. Set the Mode to Negative and the Feather type to Both and give it a 5 – 10% feather. Then animate the mask to move across the frame using two keyframes revealing the text as it goes.

Place multiple clips on multiple tracks above one another (it looks like there are only 2 in the video) and set the Opacity of the top clip to 50%. (hover your mouse at the top of the event and click to pull down the opacity slider) Adjust the opacity to the look you’re after.

This could have been done with Pan/Crop zoom and placement or it could be done with Track Motion. You could even use 3D Track Motion. All will work.

Blue-ray supports MPEG2 or AVC. Vegas Pro 8.0 has a collection of templates that all start with “Blu-ray” in the name. You’ll find them under the MainConcept MPEG-2 and Sony AVC types. Just render to one of those. Because I shoot HDV 1080i on my Sony Z1, I stick with the MPEG-2 1080-60i templates but use the template that suits your HD footage.

Yea it’s not intuitively obvious in Vegas. You are correct in using anther video track higher up to host the text. What you have to do is insert an Empty Event on that track. Just right-click on the video track and select Insert Empty Event, then add Graffiti to the empty event. This should give you the desired effect.

If you have DVD Architect 5 you can certainly use that to burn a Blu-ray disc format to a regular DVD.

It’s not that common and depends on the video content. Lots of action/movement and horizontal lines make it more pronounced. I’ve done lots of PIP’s without it but every once in a while you get a scene where for some reason the interlacing causes trouble.

Well, if you really mean HD DVD and not Blu-ray then there are no HD DVD burners and they will never exist. HD DVD lost the high def war before any burners were commercially available. (there was a very small amount shipped as part of OEM systems but you couldn’t just buy one)

You can make HD DVD or Blu-ray discs on standard DVD’s but your time is limited to about 15-20 minutes since DVD’s don’t have enough room for the high bit-rates of HD. There is no reason to make HD DVD discs so I would concentrate on making Blu-ray compatible DVD if that’s what you are looking to do.

Vegas Pro 8.0 can do this directly from the timeline using Tools | Burn Disc | Blu-ray Disc…

You can do this right in Vegas. The arrows can be made with generated media using masks and the movement is easily accomplished using Track Motion. You can also make the arrows in an graphics package like Photoshop or you can use GIF files from the web. Vegas is exceptional with using all kinds of multi-media files.
