This is the normal widescreen. Is your project set up as widescreen? Is your media widescreen? Something is not set up correctly if rendering to DV Widescreen isn’t filling up a widescreen TV completely. Give us more info about exactly what you are doing and we’ll see if we can figure out where it is going wrong.

In addition to what Danny has said, you might also have the LCD of your camera set too bright giving you the illusion that the footage is brighter than it really is while shooting. You should adjust the LCD on your camera to the extent that you camera has adjustments.

Render using the MainConcept AVC or Sony AVC file type. Both are H.264.

The Quicktime Player is notorious for ignoring the pixel aspect ratio and boldly assuming that the video has a PAR of 1.0. The only fix that I know of is to actually render with a PAR of 1.0 and adjust your resolution accordingly.

No, I don’t believe so. The trimmer is file based not event based so it opens the actual media file regardless of what takes are in the event.

It sounds like what you might be doing wrong is not using the Sony Mask Generator on the mask track. Your tracks should be laid out top to bottom as: Mask track (top), background A (middle), background B (bottom).
Then follow these steps:
- Change the Compositing Mode of the Mask track to Multiply (Mask). This will make background A show through the white part of the mask.
- Add a Sony Mask Generator as an FX on the Mask track and make sure it’s set to Luminance (the default)
- Press the Make Compositing Child button on the background A track to make it a child of the Mask track.
Background track B should now show through where there is black on the mask track. Most people forget about adding the Mask Generator. This is the crucial step.

Yup. DVD’s don’t support 25p and if you convert in Vegas you may loose quality (I’ve never done this) but I would try and sample and see if you can tell the difference. There are tools like CineForm Connect HD, Neo HDV, etc. that will convert 25p to 24p by slowing the video by 4% (which is the difference in frame rate) and re-encoding. You really can’t detect a 4% slow down.

Select AVI as the format and use the NTSC DV or PAL DV template depending on what country you are in.

DVD Architect will only recompress if your stream is not DVD compliant. I believe that the only compliant stream that is progressive is 24p. So if your media is flagged as being 24p DVD Architect will not re-encode but if you are creating a 30p or 25p stream, DVD Architect will make them 60i and 50i respectively because this is what the DVD specification calls for. This is obviously for compatibility reasons with existing DVD players.
