Do other videos look normal in Vegas? Some computers video display adapters dont work that well with video. Play the videos in Windows media player and see how thay look. There is no loss when capturing through firewire.

In addition to what Danny has said, you might also have the LCD of your camera set too bright giving you the illusion that the footage is brighter than it really is while shooting. You should adjust the LCD on your camera to the extent that you camera has adjustments.

I tried both options but the video just appears washed out and dark. I can use Video FX and correct it, but I can’t figure out why it looks so great on the camera LCD and so bad on the Laptop LCD. Other video’s like those on you tube, or others look fine. I tried 3 different firewire (Cheap, Med and expensive) and they don’t change the look. In Video FX I have to add contrast and brightness. I have sent the video to other computers and I get the same wash out look.

This is really strange. If you had Vegas Pro I’d say look at the scopes and see what the real video’s range is but the Movie Studio version of Vegas doesn’t have scopes.

Since you get the same washed out look on other computers it doesn’t look like it’s your laptop. That points to the camera itself. I would connect the camera directly to your TV and view the footage and see how it looks. If it still looks dark, maybe the camera is defective?

Thank you for the reply and suggestions. I did find the problem, it was on the 1394 connection. There was a piece of plastic blocking the end from making a complete connection on the camera. Once I removed that things looked good and the video once rendered to DVD looked great (Like it is supposed to)Thanks again to all for the help
