What changed about your PC from June? Some piece of software that you either installed or uninstalled may be causing this problem. If these files worked before, I would try re-installing Vegas as see if that fixes things. Another thing you can try is to re-encode them as DV AVI with some other program. This format will maintain the quality of the original MPEG2 files while you edit them in Vegas.

Actually you are not “capturing” in the original sense like analog. You are simply making a bit-for-bit copy of the file that is already on the tape. So your “capture” is already completely lossless because it is a digital copy.
What are you using to determine quality? I would output a small section of your footage out to Blu-ray or DVD and watch it on an HD TV. If it looks OK, then the problem is with your PC monitor not being calibrated correctly or possibly that your monitor can’t display these files at full resolution so it is scaling the footage. If you PC monitor is not capable of displaying 1920×1080 then this will add to the problem. Nothing to worry about since it will not affect the final output.

It looks like Movie Studio requires .Net 1.1 and the program you used requires 3.5 but the failing component is .Net 2.0. I would uninstall .Net 2.0 since nothing requires it and see if that fixes things. You may have to reinstall .Net 1.1 after that. Good Luck.

Wow, I’ve never seen Vegas do that before. What you are missing is called the Timeline. I just resized my windows like yours and there is no way to get the timeline back!!! I thought that hovering the mouse over the bottom would do it but it doesn’t work. Very nasty bug. Had you not included that picture I would have never believed it possible. lol.
To recover use the menu item: View | Window Layouts | Load Default Layout.

25p is not part of the DVD specification so the only way to get the footage onto a DVD so that it will play is to convert it to 24p or 50i. What you shoot in is up to you. Shooting 25p will require slower pans than 50i so that you don’t get jerky footage because there is less temporal information. You can then slow that down 4% to 24p to place on a DVD and have a nice film-like cadence.

I believe that 3D Source Alpha and many of the other compositing modes like Screen, Dodge and Burn are not available in the Movie Studio version. It has nothing to do with the trial. You would have to purchase Vegas Pro to get that level of functionality.

Without having the original files this is not possible. DVD Architect will not import a DVD. There is software that does like Ulead DVD Movie Factory but DVD Architect will not.

I saw your last post but since I was the one recommending it I thought that I was exempt from answering your question. 😉
One more advantage of the external AVDC-300 is that it can work without a computer. That means you can use it to dub tapes or dub tape to DVD with time timebase correction and not tie up a PC. If you do get an internal card, make sure it has TBC because old tapes will probably need it.

The original timecode can be obtained by adding a Sony Timecode FX to all of the media in the project media pool. A running project timecode can be obtained by adding the Sony Timecode FX to the Master Video Bus (above the Preview window).
I’m not sure why someone would want the timecode of the media since this will jump around widely as you encounter each new clip. More often people want a continuous running timecode from the beginning of the movie.

All of your posts may have been read many times and it’s just that none of us have any experience in this area. You might be better off posting in the AJA or Blackmagic forums here on the Cow or better yet, contact those companies and ask them. It’s in their best interest to help you get something working. Sorry i don’t have an answer but I have read all three posts.
