Since you are already using Movie Studio 7 you might consider Movie Studio 9 Platinum which will handle HD quite well. If you have the money, of course, Vegas Pro 8 will give you more capability than any Movie Studio version.

It’s not so much the time it takes to read the post. Some of us try and recreate the errors, and spend time look for solutions, or googling hardware specs to try and figure out why something is not working with a particular camera, or whatever the problem is. I have spent way more than 5 minutes researching and answering a single post.
I apologize if you took exception to my comment. I did not mean it in an offensive way. I did not say “you” I said “people” because, in general, the more we know, the easier it is to find a solution.

I can already see that the blue corners are not there. What version of Vegas? I see them on my Vegas Pro 8.0c. Did you loose any functionality? or just the visual cue in the corners?

Nope, Boris RED is a combination of Boris FX + Boris Graffiti + Boris Continuum Complete filters + lots more. It’s a great plug-in for Vegas.

Are you capturing via firewire?
Does vidcap indicate that it is dropping frames?
Have you defragmented your hard drive lately?
Does you hard drive have plenty of room? (DV is 13GB/hr)I looked up your laptop at the Dell site and it comes configured with Windows XP. Did you add Vista yourself? If so, did you install the latest chipset drivers?
The video and audio should playback smoothly before you start to capture. Make sure the video preview is not too large but DV should not tax a dual core PC unless something else is configured wrong.

How did you make a 956×200 banner in a 720×480 project? The first thing I would do is change the project dimensions to 956×200 so you can actually see what your output is going to look like. Then just create a customer rendering template using the same dimensions. You will have to use a codec that supports those dimension as well like MP4, Quicktime Animation, etc.

That’s because the Samsung VP-HMX20C is not an AVCHD camera. No where on the Samsung site does it even mention AVCHD with regard to this camera. It records Samsung’s own version of MPEG4 which is not AVCHD compliant. You are on your own to find software that works with this camera.

Unfortunately you get what you pay for. Personally I would return it or sell it on eBay if you wanted an AVCHD camera because this is going to be more trouble than it’s worth finding software. Take a look at the Sony HDR-CX12 if you want a nice AVCHD memory stick camera.

I’m a bit confused by what versions of software you have. There is no Vegas 9 so I assume you mean Movie Studio 9. Also if by “Vista 07” you mean the Windows 7 Beta then that may be you’re problem right there. I would wait until Sony releases a version that is compatible with Windows 7 which requires Windows 7 to actually be released. Otherwise there is no telling what incompatibilities Windows 7 has introduced.
