when i import .avi files, only audio shows
Posted by Austin Kuo on January 28, 2009 at 8:19 pmwhen i drag and drop .avi files taken directly from my digital camera, only the audio shows up on the timeline.
-This didn’t happen on my old computer, in fact, when i open old projects i worked on from my old computer, the audio loads, but the video says “media offline”
-.mpg files (from my new camera) import just fine
I believe its a matter of downloading a codec or something. but which one?
thanks

January 28, 2009 at 10:35 pmSearch for and download the free utility called GSpot and load the AVI file and it will tell you which codec you need.

January 29, 2009 at 1:02 pmWhich codec is it? It may be a codec that Vegas doesn’t support!

As a courtesy, it would be nice if people remember to mention that they are running unsupported beta operating systems when they post.

February 2, 2009 at 9:50 pmIt’s not so much the time it takes to read the post. Some of us try and recreate the errors, and spend time look for solutions, or googling hardware specs to try and figure out why something is not working with a particular camera, or whatever the problem is. I have spent way more than 5 minutes researching and answering a single post.
I apologize if you took exception to my comment. I did not mean it in an offensive way. I did not say “you” I said “people” because, in general, the more we know, the easier it is to find a solution.
