While I have not tried it, I don’t see why not. DVD Architect 5 Blu-ray support can create an ISO file of the disc image. If the ISO is smaller than a DVD you should be able to burn it to DVD media. Even if DVD Architect will not burn it to DVD, you should be able to use a program like ImgBurn to burn the ISO image. It’s worth a try. Let us know how you make out. 😉

What is the source of the footage on the timeline? If it has a lot of large multi mega-pixel still images this may cause low memory problems. The solution would be to scale the images down first outside of Vegas. It doesn’t matter that your system has 3GB. In XP, Vegas can only use 2GB maximum.

Do you really mean that the video was shot at 60 progressive frames per second and not 60 interlaced fields per second? What camera did you use?

If you really have 60p footage then yes, Vegas has to change the frame rate. It normally does this by blending frames together to make 30 frames out of 60. That introduces blur. You may be able to prevent this by going into each of the events properties and changing the resample mode to Disable resample. This should cause Vegas to simply drop half of your frames instead of interpolating them.

The tempo of the project can be set in: Project Properties | Ruler | Beats per minute. Then go into Options | Preferences | Audio and check Import audio at project tempo. You must set all of this up BEFORE you add the music. Vegas will then add all audio at the project tempo.

Are you rendering to a frame rate that is different than the original footage?

    > I did not know Vasst had tools,

In addition to our 6 regular scripting tools we have 7 free script tools in our VASST Freeware collection. Our freeware is fully supported just like our regular tools. You should check them out as well. (hey… the price is right) 😉

    > 2.0

That is quite old. If your burner is IDE and equally as old it may not be the problem but if not, you might consider an upgrade. The current version of DVD Architect is 5.0.

    To answer your questions:

    > 1. How involved is the scripting process?

You could get by with using JavaScript but most script developers I know prefer to use C#. Just download the Vegas Pro 8.0 Script Developers Kit from the Sony site for the documentation and some good code examples. See if it’s something you might want to tackle.

    > 2. Would it make sense in my case to proceed with learning the process?

That depends on how valuable your time is. You will need to make an investment in understanding the Vegas Script SDK object model and it does have it share of pitfalls and workarounds that you need to be aware of (meaning if you point a gun at your foot it will let you pull the trigger unlike the Vegas GUI that may stop you from doing something stupid)

As Edward pointed out, there are scripts on the market that already do this. In addition to Excalibur, the VASST Ultimate S Pro tool has two ways of accomplishing this. There is a tool to Delete Between Markers and one to Keep / Remove within Regions which would keep everything you have placed a region around, delete outside whats is outside, and ripple the gaps so that you are left with one continuous timelne with only the events you want and no gaps.

    > 3. Can scripting help my workflow?

IMHO, scripting in Vegas Pro is the biggest productivity enhancement of any NLE. I can’t imagine an efficient workflow without the use of scripting but I am biased. 😉

    > For example can a script cut the video and each marker, delete what I don’t want and squeeze all the other clips closer together?

Yes, and as I mentioned, the Ultimate S Pro Keep / Remove within Regions function does exactly that with one click! You can buy the answer or you can build the answer yourself. It’s your choice.

What version of DVD Architect? It is possible that it doesn’t support your DVD burner model.
