  • Sony Vegas 9: Reducing / disabling motion blur

Posted by Gavin Alford on February 12, 2009 at 7:31 am

Hi there, I’ve been using Sony Vegas 9 for about 2 months now and as good as the moion blur feature is in some videos, it also becomes rather bothersome in the videos with a first person camera perspective. I’ve looked almost everywhere on how to disable or at least reduce the ammount of motion blur when a movie is rendered. Any help in this would be greatly apprieciated!

Are you saying that you are seeing more motion blur when rendered than what is visible when played back on the timeline at full frame rate? Are you rendering to a frame rate that is different than the original footage? Frame rate changes may cause unavoidable motion blur if you are asking Vegas to create frames that didn’t exist in the original footage because it must bland existing frames to make new ones. More information on what you are doing would be helpful.

No, all the clips I’m using in the video is completely void of motion blur. When I render the final movie, the motion blur is added automatically by Vegas 9. I want to tell Vegas I want less, or none of the motion blur to be put in the final render and that’s what I’ve struggled to find out.

Yes, the original footage is filmed at 60 FPS. Vegas then reduces it to 29.97. Are you saying that if it has to reduce the framerate, it’ll add the motion blur effect weither I like it or not?

Do you really mean that the video was shot at 60 progressive frames per second and not 60 interlaced fields per second? What camera did you use?

If you really have 60p footage then yes, Vegas has to change the frame rate. It normally does this by blending frames together to make 30 frames out of 60. That introduces blur. You may be able to prevent this by going into each of the events properties and changing the resample mode to Disable resample. This should cause Vegas to simply drop half of your frames instead of interpolating them.
