Your best bet would be to crop the 16:9 media to 4:3 aspect. To do this, make sure the project is set to DV 4:3 and then open Pan/Crop on the 16:9 event and right-click and select Match Output Aspect. this will crop the media to match the 4:3 aspect of your project. It may look it little worse than the rest because it has to be zoomed it a bit but you can add some sharpening to try and offset this.

Try using Track Motion instead of Pan/Crop. This makes logo placement a lot easier. You can find the track motion button in the track header on the left of the timeline. It will do exactly what you want (resize/reposition etc.).

The problem with black is that the dancer probably has some black on them and that will be keyed out as well. That’s why we use blue or green because they don’t occur in human skin and hair and so as long as you can get the talent not to wear the key color you’re all set.
Have you tried the chroma keyer in Vegas using black as the key color? This should work. You could also duplicate the video and add the Mask Generator FX to create a moving mask and then use Parent/Child compositing mode to apply the mask. Either way should remove the black background.

If you are referring to the transparency just hover your mouse at the top of any video event and you’ll see the cursor change to a hand with an up/down arrow and a tool tip says “Opacity is 100%”. Just click and drag down and you can change the opacity to any amount you want revealing any video on the tracks below. You can also set the opacity of an entire track in the track header (for some reason it’s labeled “Level” in the header).

It should also be pointed out that Windows Server 2008 is not a supported platform for Vegas. Only Microsoft® Windows® XP SP2 or Windows Vistaâ„¢ are supported so hopefully you aren’t doing this professionally because you will not get support from Sony.

If you are using Vegas 7 or Vegas Pro 8, and the render format matches the MPG files exactly, and you have not change the files in any way with FX, etc., then Vegas will “smart render” the files. This means it will simply copy the input to the output with no loss of quality.
If, however, one of the MPG files doesn’t match the output format exactly, or you add FX, or you are using Vegas 6 or below, then Vegas will re-render the files and there will be a quality loss.

Yes. The important thing to remember is that the tracks are seen from the top down. So the topmost track will hide the track below it, and that one will hide the next one. If you want your network bug to always be on top, then make it the top track. since the name should always be above the lower third, keep it on the track just above. You can layer as many tracks as you want this way.

I assume you have to run the installer that came with it and have it install itself however it wants. You shouldn’t have to manually place anything in the VST folder (although I haven’t tried SoundSoap Pro so I don’t know for sure but SoundSoap 2 was an automated install)

Yes it does but not in an AVI file. It supports mpeg 2 audio in mpeg files.

In general, Vegas does not support, nor like, nor work well with DivX or XviD files. Stop using this format your you will stop having problems like this.
