Yea, that should edit quite smoothly on a modern computer with a good GPU. It could be just the nested projects slowing things down.

From reading their web site it looks like a Windows only product that uses FFMPEG under the covers and their Customer Forum has complaints about it re-encoding everything even if the file is already Blu-ray compliant, deinterlacing everything even though interlaced video is Blu-ray compliant, and the re-encodes using a ridiculously high 40Mbps bit rate.

It also looks to be template driven so creating custom menus like DVD Architect doesn’t seem possible. I guess as long as you like the templates that’s ok. I used iDVD for several projects on the Mac and the templates where quite professional looking. In fact, they were better than anything you could have created in DVD Architect without a whole lot of 3D animation work. So that’s not always a bad thing but sometimes customers want a custom look which wouldn’t be possible.

“We are no longer accepting video uploads. “

so it’s not by accident.

That’s because the MPEG file is probably already in a format that can be placed on DVD so DVD Architect leaves it as it is.

That’s correct! This is happening because you cannot put an MP4 file onto a DVD. It must be re-encoded as an MPEG2 file and DVD Architect will use the Project Proteries to re-encode it and the project properties are 16:9 so DVD Architect is going to convert your 4:3 MP4 into a 16:9 MPEG2.

If you don’t want this to happen, don’t drop MP4 files into DVD Architect. Give it a proper 4:3 MPEG2 file that has been encoded with one of the DVD Architect templates in Vegas Pro.

I’m guessing that your other MPEG files are not DVD compliant.

That should have worked so if you want to detail the steps you are using in your workflow, maybe I can see where the alpha channel is being lost.

It really depends on what HD codec you are using. There are many of them (not like DV) so if you are using HDV or AVCHD you should have a smooth editing experience. Having the right GPU also helps a lot (which you seem to have).

Lots of nested projects will definitely slow things down depending on what is inside those projects. Rendering them out will definitely help performance.
