It actually might help if you explain what went wrong and what you did to fix it so that when others come looking and get a hit on your title, they will also have an answer. 😉

Canned air is good. If you have any furry pets, their dander can provide quite a nice warming blanket. One problem is that the fins on the CPU heat sink are covered by a shield that can’t be removed without taking several other parts out first. I don’t know how much you will get out with just canned air but it’s worth a try.

Here is a video on how to get the CPU Heat Sink Shield off. As I said, you might want to leave this to a professional but I just wanted you to understand what it entails. This should give you adequate access to blow air between the fins and get all of the dust out (don’t remove the heat sinks, just blow them with air from the side):

Spinning hard drives can certainly get very warm and keeping them cool will extend their life. It’s not the reason your Mac is rebooting but it’s certainly all part of good maintenance to keep dust away from any part that requires cooling.

At work we use rsync to keep production and staging servers in sync but these are in the 100’s of GB not TB range. It’s still the unix tool of choice for large data synchronizations.
As a test, you might try doing a local rsync to another local disk on the same host on the loopback nic (127.0.0.1) and see what the throughput is. I assume that would bypass the network in loopback mode and give you a disk-to-disk performance measurement (i’ve never tried this but it sounds like it should work). If it’s greater throughout that way, then the network is your limiting factor. If it’s the same, then perhaps the storage system is the limiting factor. Rsync is pretty efficient so it shouldn’t be the limiting factor.
If course, rsync is comparing checksums and only sending difference if the files already exist. If you don’t need this capability, rcp will blindly remote copy without checking for existing files. This may cut down some of the overhead of checking first. I’m not sure how much overhead that is and if some of the files haven’t changed then you definitely want to use rsync instead.

It’s not about the sensors. It’s about the recording format. The Sony HVR-Z7U is also an HDV camera that shots 4:2:0. Of course the larger sensor will give you a better picture in low light. I’ve used my Sony Z1U for green screen work all the time so I’m not saying that it isn’t workable. It’s just not optimal. If you light the scene correctly you should be fine.

Quicktime is not a codec. It’s a container. The GH3 shoots AVCHD or AVC/H.264. Both of those are 4:2:0 color space. I’m guessing it uses AVC/H.264 in a QuickTime container (which is a superset of AVCHD) but from the specs, I can’t really tell. Either way it’s all 4:2:0.

The Sony Z1U is not AVCHD. It’s HDV MPEG2. The Panasonic Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3 shoots AVCHD. Both formats are 8-bit 4:2:0 so they will be equally poor for green screen work.
Since the Panasonic GH3 shoots QuickTime I would not use that with Vegas Pro because of Vegas Pro’s limited Quicktime support. I would use the Z1U because it will edit a lot smoother in Vegas Pro.
It also depends on what Chroma Keyer you use. The one in Vegas Pro is rather primitive and needs everything to be lit perfectly. Other keyers like the one in Boris Continuum Complete are more forgiving.

Hmmm… that is odd then. Sounds like a graphics driver problem to me. You said you were using a beta driver. I would go back to an older stable driver.

Not likely. If these are OFX plug-ins, the presets should be stored in your “My Documents” folder under “OFX Presets”. See if they exist under the Admins documents folder.
I wonder if it’s a bug? I would contact Sony support. If you are saving presets in the FX, they should show up in the list.

If you upgraded in place from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 this could be your problem. I would never upgrade a Windows system in place. Always build a new system from freshly formatted disks. I don’t use Windows 10 so I really can’t help debug this but I have read about several Vegas Pro editors who upgraded Windows 10 in place and had all sorts of problems, and then did a clean install and everything worked. …just passing along the info.
