I’ve spent several hours going through Google, Creative Cow, etc searching for threads on permissions.

I recently upgraded to Win 10 from 8.1 and did a clean install of Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 13. Had some issues with dragging files between Windows Explorer and Vegas, so ran it for a day with “Run as Admin” turned on, before figuring things out and turning it back off.

I’ve tried to recreate some of my favourite presets by hand, but I find they are not saving. It seems the chains I create are saving, but the presets within each effect are not.

Example, I add a GPU-Accelerated Sharpen effect, and the presets are Default, Medium, Light, and Heavy. I customize it, and save it as YouTube. It stays with the video I’m editing, but does not appear as a drop-down option. So if I change it to Heavy, I do not get the option to change it back to YouTube.

When I ran this in Windows 8.1, I had no problem with this. I’m wondering if I did something while Run as Admin was turned on, or if there’s something I’m missing somewhere. I’ve looked in the registry and can’t find anything, have checked the security settings for Vegas from the desktop icon, everything looks like I should be able to do this with no problem.

    Thank you for reading!

Presets are saved under the user account that is running the software so if you run as Administrator, they are saved under the Administrator’s account instead of your account. You need to save them while using Movie Studio as your own account.

I’ve been using it running as myself for the past few weeks…is it possible it’s trying to save it under the Admin even if I’m running it as me?

[Mike Kerr] “..is it possible it’s trying to save it under the Admin even if I’m running it as me?”

Not likely. If these are OFX plug-ins, the presets should be stored in your “My Documents” folder under “OFX Presets”. See if they exist under the Admins documents folder.

I wonder if it’s a bug? I would contact Sony support. If you are saving presets in the FX, they should show up in the list.
