A lot of us prefer to feed it an already rendered file.
What is the disadvantage in importing an .avi file, and letting DVDA figure out the best compression?

Do you really need to go to AE?
Vegas has powerful compositing features you can apply right on the timeline.

Thanks, Rick. I hadn’t thought of the dedicated separate page file drive. Would it work just as well if it were an external USB drive, or should it be internal only?
And any thoughts on the question of where best to put render files?

If you’re still unable to paste, go to the clip you’ve applied the brightness effect to, save and name that setting in the effect window, and then apply the named effect to other clips. A little slower than pasting, but pretty fast.
Alternatively, put the clips you want the effect applied to on their own video track (which you can name as a reminder), and apply the effect to the whole track rather than to the individual clips.

If all you want is a reference track as a guide, and all else fails, you could play the DVD and tape it off the screen with a DV camcorder to import into Vegas.

Thanks, Doug. Vegas will print to tape in sync okay; it’s just the .avi file renders or DVD renders (through DVD Architect) that are out of sync. .avi files end up about 11 frames out of sync, DVDs in sync at the start, out of sync by the end. Source material is DVCam, in sync of course. What possible software setting would result in out of sync .avi files, but in sync print to tape? Gary Kleiner couldn’t think of one, which is why he suggested there could be a hardware glitch.

I’ve had it go both ways. One project started out in sync, then got worse to about 10 frames out. Another was consistently about 13 frames out.

Terje, I’m using the “Render as…” choice in the File menu in Vegas, and then choosing .avi as the type of file to render the program.

I talked to Gary Kleiner on the phone this morning, and he has the same idea that you do, Brett: he thinks it’s most likely a hardware problem.

The sound is out of sync with the picture in the rendered file
