  • How do I rip DVD to the vegas timeline?

Posted by Frank Manno on May 21, 2007 at 9:40 am

Is it possible to rip a DVD movie to the vegas timeline? I can’t seem to get vegas to ‘see’ the files in the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders on the DVD movie.

We’re doing a send up of the Godfather and it would be easier if I could get the movie on the timeline as a reference. (scene length, dialogue etc)

Would also like to match colour to it etc..

HMMMM< I thought the FIle>Import>DVD Camcorder Disc feature showed up on all of Version 6 but it MIGHT have been added to 6d-if for some reason it’s not there you can hookup a DVD player to your passthru, be it a deck or camera and simply play the DVD into your computer using Vegas capture or Scenalayzer and now you have an AVI to work with instead of an MPEG. I have found it easier to do that so I don’t need to goof around with converting.

It was added in 6.0C. You need to update. 6.0D is the current version of Vegas 6.

How does the copygurad issue affect this. Not legally but functionally?

I believe Vegas requires that it be unprotected.

Edward is right so you won’t be (legally) able to rip a Godfather DVD.

Is it possible to do this? I find that with vegas capture I can’t capture anything via a passthrough because I can’t find any way of starting a capture this way. Vegas seems to want to control the deck to start a capture, via deck control.

How can I start capturing a signal that’s just passing through my firewire deck?

“How can I start capturing a signal that’s just passing through my firewire deck?”

    In the Capture window:
    Options – Prefs – General:
    De-select Enable DV device control.

    …hookup a DVD player to your passthru…

Be advised that, if the DVD is copy protected, this won’t work.
