Be advised that, if the DVD is copy protected, this won’t work

Aw Mike, you’re such a party pooper 😉

It will work, unless the DVD has macrovision; some do, some dont. If you have a MX-1 switcher or TBC or such, it will remove the macrovision.
If not, use a program such as DVD Shrink to rip the dvd, which will remove all copy protection and macrovision, then you can rip your dvd with vegas.

This also Comes in handy if you have 3-6 year old kids that insist on doing the movies themselves.

I am not condoning this type of activity, but for your purposes, you should be ok.

If all you want is a reference track as a guide, and all else fails, you could play the DVD and tape it off the screen with a DV camcorder to import into Vegas.

    That’s not a bad idea..

That other thing I wanted to do was try to match the colour, grain, etc of the original movie..

How could I do that anyway? What would be the best tool to match colour with? Just hue/saturation and all the usual stuff and just it by eye yeah?

That’s why I was also hoping to get it on the timeline at some sort of decent quality level.

I was wondering what DVD Shrink does to the DVD, make an avi or mp4? Is there a better tool as I have rendered dvds with my video and want it back to Vegas intead of Studio…

    thx, mark
