March 3, 2012 at 8:18 pm in reply to: Why is colored stage lighting creating blotches of color on my PMW-EX1? Is it like color-overexposure or something? This is also a major problem for me as well especially with Blue. I use a Picture Profile by Oliver Neubert that works pretty well:
I also have asked the lighting person to turn down the Blue channel or add white.
Out of desperation I have eliminated the Blue channel entirely when I had a Blue corona around six dancers that proportionately looked two feet wide. Looked better than the corona.
And of course down converting exascerbates the problem.
I have shot the same LED lights with my VX2000 and it looks fine.

This problem is not being resolved. See this thread. It is one of many:

I still think this is a Windows problem. You are a gamer so you use a lot of cache memory. Can you get rid of the cache memory? Go to start-all programs-accessories-system tools-disk cleanup. It may take awhile. It will ask what you want to get rid of. I recommend everything but you really need to make sure everything with CACHE is checked. Then delete.
Is your hard drive swap file set too low? The swap file (Virtual Memory) can cause the problem you describe:
Right click My Computer and choose Properties.
In the System Properties window, click the Advanced tab.
Under Performance, click Settings.
In the Performance Options window, click Advanced.
Under Virtual memory, click Change.Increase the size of the Paging file so that it is at least twice the size of your RAM, but here is a guide:

Thanks for the reply Kristian.
Rather than daisy chain two devices would the Broadcast converter work for what my requirements are?
Or would your SDI to HDMI mini converter work in conjunction with your H264 Pro recorder:

I am looking for high quality SD hardware conversion

1. none of the Razer processes need to run all the time. And neither does “steam”. Just when you play games
2. Antivir can be disabled when you render. Just disconnect from the internet if you are afraid of being hacked.
3. Google sidebar isn’t necessary
4. Speedfan isn’t necessary
5. Searchfilterhost is not a required process for Windows
6. rocketdock doesn’t need to run at startup
You have a bunch of others that are hogging resources, but start with those. Disable those to run at startup.John

In Vegas, try turning off “waveforms and frames” ….and “thumbnails”.
It also may be a windows problem. How many processes do you have running. You may not realize that many of your windows resources are being exhausted. This often occurs when people use their editing computers for their main computer. Press Ctrl, Alt., Del and take a look. Look at the task bar. Download HiJack This! and do a “system scan”. It will give you a list. You may be able to get rid of a lot of unnecessary processes.

Ditto on the joystick alternative.

I have had a 501 head for a number of years. It has a problem called “stiction”. After it has been sitting for awhile (like in a stage shoot) it requires a lot of effort to get it to tilt and the resulting jerk is often noticeable in the footage.

The problem has never been addressed by Manfrotto and also exists in the 503 head. The reason is that it is not a true fluid head but rather a sandwich of discs with grease smeared between them.

Most of what they see will depend upon room lighting and the projector’s capabilities. I would suggest that you use a DVD and move as close as possible to the screen with the projector and not try to fill the entire screen. That will improve the brightness and perceived contrast.
