I think it was the restart that fixed it rather than deleting the backup copy. The backup copy does nothing unless its installed into your System folder.

If you delete a framework or driver, you need to restart, as it was loaded into RAM when you booted your computer and the operating system loaded.

Dave makes an important point.

If the original footage is 23.98 and the sequence is 23.98, and you need a final output as 29.97, the fix is actually rather simple.

You can export a reference movie and use Compressor to add the pulldown to get you to 29.97 for file based output.

If you are outputting to tape, a Kona or Blackmagic card can output with pulldown, as well.

Make sure the Field Order column is visible in the bin when AMA linking (that column is not on by default)
If it says “unknown” instead of Progressive, it will not add the pulldown correctly.
Select all in the column and right click to change to Progressive.
Transcode your clips and the correct pulldown will be added .

PS: just to be clear, I am advocating linking to the Nikon files via AMA, correcting the field order setting, then transcoding to Avid DNXHD files.

I’m guessing its QuickTime DNX HD and not MXF, which makes it kind of a wash with ProRes (as both are native and can be consolidated), but I hope to be surprised.

It’s locked by default. Click the lock and it will ask for your Admin password, then you can change it.

At the very bottom, there should be a checkbox that says “Ignore ownership on this volume”. Check that.

Yes. That should work fine. You probably won’t even have to relink. When you launch Avid, it looks on all available drives for media databases (which are located in your Avid MediaFiles folder). You must maintain the folder structure and keep the Avid MediaFiles folder at the root level. If you each have identical projects, you can just share the bin that contains the updated sequence in it. Assuming someone doesn’t add media the other doesn’t have, you should be fine.

You can and should use AMA in most cases, rather than straight import. You link via AMA and transcode to your desired Avid resolution. Transcoding is often much faster than import.

Can you navigate to and link via AMA to any media file on the drive ?

Sometimes the act of doing that will wake it up and it will find everything else.

If you can’t, there are other troubleshooting steps, but try this first, as it’s easy. Have your other bins open when you do it,

As an aside…it sounds like you are editing with media linked via AMA, rather than the “traditional” Avid media. Pretty much all these problems go away if you stop editing with AMA linked clips. The “rock solid” Avid media management everyone told you about will fall into place, and your head won’t be spinning anymore (well, mostly, anyway).

Sounds like Adobe would be a better fit for you, honestly.

Doing this without transcoding is going to be painful in Avid.

Work without transcoding in Premiere and then make your DVD in Encore. It’s all very similar to what you already are doing.

I say this as a long time Avid editor. It’s just not the greatest at the type of workflow you are suggesting. Right tool for the right job.

Note DVDSP and Adobe Encore both work well for now, but are both discontinued. There is no real alternative as the major software companies for Mac have decided DVD is dead. Encore can at least make a BluRay, DVDSP cannot.
