Try using the Media Browser. Is usually good at dealing with card structures. You can set up your ingest presets for proxies there too.

If this is just for an audio mix, dupe the sequence and delete all video before the export

Rather than give yourself a headache with all this, why not just hit “F” when in the timeline to match frame. Then your clip appears in the source monitor (with the current timeline in and out points) and you can do anything you want.
I agree about the inconsistent behavior and poor documentation.

You dont need the PIP tool. Just promote the title(s) to 3D, and all the controls to move it around and resize appear (and more). Click the 3D box in the lower right corner of the Effect Pallete.

Have you tried moving all video up one track so that V1 is empty, and putting the submaster effect on V1? Doesn’t really fix the bug, but its faster than finding all the gaps and adding an effect to them.

Might be a problem with deck communication. Do you have another cable?

Should be no problem. Its pretty common to do this. Avid looks for Media Databases on whatever drives are connected on startup. It doesn’t care if you move the media to a different drive. You probably won’t even have to relink.
***This applies to Avid Managed Media, not Linked (AMA) media…which can be a bit more finicky (but still possible)

Can you use Project Manager to provide your After Effects Person a copy of the sequence with media? With Creative Cloud, your After Effects person can also have Premiere on their machine to dynamic link with.

Resolve can exchange with both FCP and Avid, so it’s a good go between in many instances. And it’s free to try.
AD has been discontinued for years, so I would not count on it working well on complex sequences with recent versions of Avid.

Export AAF from Avid.
Import into DaVinci Resolve LiteExport Media and XML for import into FCP7.
