They are on a PowerMac Dual G5. They can’t do Pro Res, David. It’s Uncompressed or DVCPRO HD with that machine.
You are right though…they can get one of the cheaper AJA cards, if they still can be gotten for PCI-X.
Or buy a used Kona 2 on ebay or something.

AJA Kona 3X (not the newer PCIe model)
Your machine will not do ProRes…need a MacPro for that. That leaves Uncompressed HD (not with your RAID…need something more serious for a feature film) or DVCPRO HD. DVCPRO HD will work fine even with cheap storage. Not as good a quality as ProRes (not bad though), but if you are poor and desperate…..
Scopes? Audio? Monitoring?? Are they just going to wing it with levels and color grading??
They are better off selling their blood and spare organs to get into a real post house for a few days with this. But you knew that already.

I wrote that comment. What Meant was that you should find the master clip in your project that the orphan clip should be linking to and edit it into the sequence replacing the orphan. This would be horrifically tedious with a lot of clips. If its only a few, not so bad.
There really is no other way to fix it other than creating a new master clip in you project -

If you drag or copy/paste a sequence from a different project (e.g. from another system) the clips will be independent…they will have no affiliation to the original master clips, even if they are actually identical by reel and timecode. No way to fix that, except to overwrite the same clips from your project replacing them.

Use Compressor to convert the clips to the same frame rate. Make sure you turn on the Frame Controls and set the retiming controls to Better or Best.

When Avid did the port to Windows, they made everything…the pallets, the Composer window, the timeline…all live inside one giant window. Photoshop, and most Windows apps do this. Not really the way things work on a Mac at all.

If you followed the steps in that article, you did everything correctly. Sounds like one of those things that makes people hate MM.
Have you tried creating a new empty project….copy/paste your sequence into it. Close the original project…now try Media Manager (using all steps, including “Make Sequence Clips Independent”).
You might get a different result.

Make sure you are running FCP 6.03 or higher to fix this.
Issue When Opening Projects Resolved
When opening some projects, Final Cut Pro 6.0.2 would sometimes erroneously display a message warning that the project was unreadable or too new for that version of Final Cut Pro. Your workflow seems a little off..
Use Media Manager to create an offline version of the sequence (using an HDV preset) for you to recapture. You dont need to be copy pasting clips from the original sequence into a new empty one…you simply use the new offline sequence (at the correct size) to batch capture.
If you just copy/paste the clips, they retain the parameters from the PAL sequence and they automatically resize to fill the HDV frame (thats why you are getting the resizing in the motion tab)

Again…are you seeing the stretching in Quicktime Player or within FCP?
