Your monitor may be incapable of showing much difference.

  • 23.976 fps video uses timecode running at 24 frames per second…so there is a discrepancy.

Back in the NTSC world, the discrepancy between 29.97 fps video and 30 frames per second timecode is dealt with by using drop frame timecode.

There is no drop frame timecode in the 24 frame world. Its all non-drop frame, so you are seeing the result of that inaccuracy.

September 30, 2017 at 7:07 pm in reply to: Render and Replace Clips do not show in Speedgrade

Speedgrade has been discontinued, and has been neglected a long time. Its not surprising recent features added to Premiere Pro don’t work in Speedgrade.

Maybe locate the media from the render and replace…import it and manually edit it into the sequence so that you are not linking to the AE comps. It will just look like a regular Quicktime movie that way. Do this on a copy of the sequence, obviously, so you don’t lose the ability to tweak it again..

If you need advanced grading, I’d start transitioning to Resolve if the tools in Premiere are inadequate for what you need to do in future projects.

  • Break the sequence into tracks, maybe?

Tracks 1-8 in one sequence, 9-16 in another, etc.

Then all they have to do is merge them into one session at their end.

If they can’t deal with that, then they have to do reels. It’s not like the EDL format from CMX edit controllers in the 1970s is ever gonna get updated.

I cant speak specifically to Reuters footage, but I have seen some types of H.264 (GoPro?) footage make MC basically unusable, forcing me to transcode. Not sure if the footage was long GOP, which is more processor intensive.

Newer versions of MC have improved linked footage performance. If you are in a position to upgrade, I’d try and see if it helps.

I like the ones that show negative numbers. Makes me feel like a time traveler

  • Yes Shane, you can do what you describe in Premiere. It’s actually better than Avid Animatte, imho…and way better than FCP 7.

Make sure the tape matches the frame rate of the project….and also make sure the tape is the same frame rate that the deck is set to. Some decks will convert the frame rate and play it back on the fly but this signal cannot be captured via FireWire.

Unless I am missing something, it looks like these are actually free, so nothing to purchase, really…just download.

I missed this whole transition, as I have been mostly in Adobe land the past year. Had no idea Sony handed it off.
