Do you have a Blackmagic card.?
This was a bug with an early Avid compatible driver. Update to the most current one and all will be well.

Hmmm.. Years ago, there was a hack you could do to enable real time playback of full raster Photo JPEG (aka OfflineRT). This was in the pre-ProRes days, when many were searching for compressed good quality codecs that worked in RT.
You would get this message if you did the hack, but you would ignore it and it would work.
Basicslly, it sounds like your list of RT codecs has been altered or corrupted.

When I do it, you get a dialing asking you to assist in mapping the data to columns…does this not happen with you?

The version in Avid v5 is incompatible with version 6.
The new one is 64 bit. The old one won’t work if it comes unrendered.

And how is it best to literally bring in the material into Avid? Do I load in a project with the same specs then how should I get that material into the master project? Open Bin? Then what? Move Bin into master project folder and open the project?
I do it this way all the time. Create a temp project of the same specs, then move the bin into the master project.
Open Bin works fine too, but having the bin show up in “other bins” is not the best way to organize, You could also use “Open Bin”, then drag the clip to a new bin you create inside the project. I have found Mix and Match in the timeline does a better job of conversion than doing the conversion on import directly into the master project.The only downside to all this, is that the project affiliation in the Media Tool will be to the temp project and not the “master” project. You can, of course, select multiple projects to sort in the Media Tool.

Have you downloaded and installed the AMA plugin for Panasonic ?
I don’t think you can do this the way you are doing it, I think you need to link via AMA (and consolidate if you wish)

You make some good points, but I think the editor was trying to preserve his relationship with the director.
If a lot of work is invested in a cut, the director might feel compelled to stay with it, even if he would have preferred something else., etc. it affects the decision making process in unintended ways. I don’t know these people, so it’s hard to say whats going on. Speaking for myself, I would more enjoy being creative (most editors like editing) and do a cut like you suggested rather than tweak a very rough 2 minute edit…staying in holding pattern… but if the director I work for regularly might be displeased, I’d be inclined to wait anyway.Anyway, this isn’t really an Avid question, but an interesting discussion.

Without knowing a few details, it’s hard to judge. Offhand, I’d say the editor might be out of line…but having been in a few bad situations like this over the years, I’m inclined to play devils advocate..
Who is paying the editor for this? Does he work for you or the director?
What is the nature of the footage? It sounds like you think he can just whack something rough together for the VFX to get started….but are you just looking at it only from your perspective? Does it require a a great deal of editing to make this piece work correctly to the time you are insisting on? Are you asking him to spend a lot of time and effort making something fairly polished that the director is likely to abandon due to his lack of input? This doesn’t matter if you are paying him..he should cut whatever you want, even if its a potential waste of time….but if he’s making a flat rate on the job and you are not directly paying him…he could end up taking a big hit doing a lot of extra editing that’s never going to see the light of day.
What does the director have to say about this? Does the director have a working relationship with the editor?

There really are none. A few new presets and some interface tweaks. Decent integration with fcpx.
No performance increase that’s significant. It’s still a 32 bit app.
