I found that Favourites has never worked properly since they implemented persistent in and outs (10.0.6 I think). Lots of buggy behaviour like you mentioned.
It used to be the case where you could mark a Favourite then press tab to name the Favourite all without stopping playback. It was a really elegant, fast and fluid way of logging. Now it’s bit of a half way house kludge.
Send a bug report… it is a feature I would really like returned/fixed. Ideally there should also be a way to turn persistent in and out off in the preferences.

I’ve had a similar problem once. A project was filmed @ 25fps, edited @ 25fps and mixed at @ 25fps. However when the mix came back it slowly went out of sync even tho the timeline and stems where 25fps.
What it turned out to be was a bug of sorts in FCP. At some point during the edit I had trashed my prefs and never set the default setting back to 25fps – the one that automatically appears when you next boot up FCP after trashing prefs. Now even tho I was editing in a 25fps timeline with a 25fps audio stems FCP had “tagged” them as 29.97 when they were imported (although it still showed up as 25fps in QT) because that was now FCPs default setting.
The solution was to trash my prefs again and also the audio stems FCP had been working with. Then reimporting ‘fresh’ stems.

Hi Bruce,
I’ve not used XDCAM or any files direct from a BPAV folder in FCPX yet so this might not work. Or i’m not understanding what you want. However when you import files into FCPX it will copy (at the finder level) the Quicktime files into “Original Media” folder in the event folder. I would use FCPX to create a new Event and move a copy of the 139 files you need into the new Event. At the Finder level a new Event folder will have been created with a copy of the 139 shots in it. Grab those files and stick them through Compressor selecting add BITC from the options.
You might need to transcode the files to Proxy or ProRes422 first so compressor can read them. I don’t think it can read BPAV folders.

Park your playhead before the clips you want to select. Go to the timeline index and press “shift/alt/down” to selects all clips to the right. (or “shift+alt+down” to select all clips to the left.)
Once the clips are highlighted select the position tool and punch in the duration you want your clips moved by.

There is a workaround that might help.
Copy the RAW files that you want to send to you client into a new event. FCPX will then copy those files at the finder level into a new event folder. Use Compressor to add burnt in timecode to your viewers.

A Keyword is a word what you tag a clip with. Say the word “Interview”. Think of it as the blue line that appears above a clip. You can have multiple keywords on one clip.
A Keyword Collection is where clips with that single world (Interview) are collected. The blue ‘folders’ that appear under your events. Each keyword will have its own keyword collection.

You can assign roles a couple of different ways. One ways is to select a clip in the event browser, switch to list view and you’ll find a drop down menu with different role options.

These spring to mind.
Assign unmapped keyboard shortcuts. “Expand / Collapse all audio” for all clips in the timeline and “export to apple device” are commands I use all the time.
Unplug the mouse and use a trackpad.
To select a clip, don’t click on it like FCP7, hover the curser above it and press “C”. Makes editing a whole lot smoother and stops the playhead jumping around.
You can turn off timeline thumbnails and waveforms (for all ‘track appearances’) in the timeline index’s role panel. This should help performance on slower machines.
