  • Wait…. you have a yellow bar over your clips? And it turned Green? That doesn’t make sense.

Green means that a preview has been rendered for that clip. It shouldn’t turn green under any other circumstances. Did you render a preview? Cause you didn’t say anything about that.

  • The “Media Pending” screen that you see for a while is a factor of the length of the file. With any Interframe media PP takes a bit of time and “Indexes” the file. With MPEG-2, The progress of this it displayed on the lower right. The fact that you don’t see anything there is suspicious, but may not be a problem, I don’t know. I would need to experiment.

I’m guessing the Indexing process is Premiere reading through the entire file to find the I frames and where the GOPs start and end. It takes a while in your case it takes a while cause it’s a long file.

Have you tried just leaving Premiere alone for a while before you start working? I know you shouldn’t need to, but maybe something about the mp4 files is making the process take a long time.

  • Well, if you’re up for trying again from scratch, I’d update Premiere before opening anything to see if that helps.

Also what version of OSX are you using?

I’ll keep thinking about this…. There’s something very definitely wrong but god if I know what!

  • I’d say the crash corrupted something. The Invalid Checksum issue may or may not be related, but you’re not the only one getting it. All the people mentioning getting the Invalid Checksum error seem to be downloading trials of CS6 software. I don’t see anyone getting that problem with the full versions.

Anyway, it seems like a common problem, so maybe adobe will fix that.
as for your Premiere Problems, I’m guessing a re-install will fix them.

Well, it’s possible you don’t have it. It’s a plugin so the file disappears from the PP folder, poof it’s gone. I used to delete mine because it slowed PP a bit, having to load the plugin.

Anyway, to get to SurCode, you select one of those two formats, ether MPEG-2 DVD or MPEG-2 Blu-Ray and go tithe audio tab and select Dolby Digital, and then SurCode will appear as an option.

Well, I’m perfectly happy to select all my footage at once and modify them all with a few clicks. Even clips that are in different bins.

However, you can also change the default in the preferences to import everything as dual mono. It’s in one of the audio tabs.

I’ve never had problems with 60 to 30p, but I’ll tell you what I do whenever I do a conversion and it just doesn’t work.

I stick my sequence that I edited in, which matches my media, into a sequence which matches my desired output. I’ve found this to be affective when simply rendering to the new format doesn’t work so well.

    It’s worth a shot.

Another thing you could try is turning on “frame blending” when you render.

Well, first, the only way that PP can encode 5.1 AC3 audio is using SurCode which is included with PP as a trial. You have 3 uses and after that you have to buy it.

Second, as far as I can tell, it only turns up as an option when you select ether MPEG-2 DVD or MPEG-2 BluRay as your output options, but not when you select H.264 Blu-Ray. There is a way around this however.

You just need to export the audio and the video separately. Select MPEG-2 Blu-Ray and export just the audio, (uncheck the “export video” checkbox) then select H.264 Blu-Ray and export just the video.

You can marry the two back together in Encore and output the disk.

Sorry I can’t help you get around the 3 trial uses… you’ll have to ether buy it or use another program after that.

Great! I’m glad you’re all sorted.

In case you haven’t found it, the default keyframe display mode is in the general preferences.

Found your problem. You’ve set that track to (or the default has been set to) show track volume. When the track is set to this mode the clips are locked. (I’ve no idea why… seems stupid to me.)

Right there in the center. That’s the keyframe display mode button. Change that to clip keyframes or clip volume and everything should work.
