Yes, I was thinking of quicktime “pro” which gives you h.264, or flash.
But I’m still not clear – in what form does the DV clip exist on my computer? “Windows .avi”. OK, so if I have a couple of these clips on the timeline, and I want to render them out to the same type of file they began in – assuming this is how to maintain fidelity – then what “video for Windows” .avi Template do I choose?
One would think “uncompressed” would offer the best quality, but 10 seconds = 1/2 a gig…, and since the original clip was 30 mb, this doesn’t make much sense (shouldn’t it be called “decompressed”?)
In any event, I tried rendering to NTSC DV and the clip looked weird – bright and harsh.

Thanks Christopher,
when I go to the “render as” (Vpro8)I see quicktime(.mov). I then have choice of templates – uncompressed, 3mbs, etc. After picking one of those there are more format questions – target bit rates, mp4 or Sorenson or…and then audio – more formats there – the default one is one that sounds really bad – are we looking at the same thing here?

Thanks for that,
the Tori Amos video looks good
Can you tell me what settings you used in the .mov render? I see there are a huge number of options. -
Raymond MP –
I take back what I said about the $40 On2 flash encoder. I realized I’d begun with an .mp2 on the timeline instead of an .avi. So of course it would come out bad. I’m going to try the .mov thing you suggested.
Thanks[Ron Shook] “Could someone tell me whether there’s some way to do a re-do if the video comes out badly when you upload to YouTube, or…, can you ask them to remove it and then try again with different perameters? That would give you a chance to try and push the envelope and try again if it doesn’t work out.”
Ron – I always upload a small clip named TEST. You simply go to your “account” and hit “remove”. It’s easy.

Ron – Thanks for the really informative post.
I tried a demo of the $40 On2 encoder, and yes, it’s not good quality.
I went back to WMV and messed with it some more and am uploading to Youtube now.I’ll hang on to my money for now,not ready to spring for a good Flash encoder.
Thanks again.

Thanks, Edward
Problem fixed itself after restarting computer -
Thanks, Raymond MP,
I assume Vegas doesn’t render to that. Do you know of a flash converter that um, won’t take me days to learn how to use? That might be inexpensive?
Thanks -
I just got a shuttle pro. I know it was tricky getting Vegas 8 to show up in the apps list. Here’s what I THINK I did. In the drop down apps list in the control panel I chose the latest version of vegas that I saw, which didn’t do anything for me. Then I went to the options button and “change target app.” You browse to your exe. of vegas 8 and then it showed up in the drop down list. Then when I use the shuttle I make sure “vegas8.exe” is what’s selected from the list.
Oh, one other thing – look for your “vegas8.exe” at the very bottom of the drop down list – it may not be with the other “sony” apps under “s”. -
Thanks – I’ll give it a shot.
By the way, I’ve been slowly deciphering your abbreviations – so let’s see: HTH? It’s not coming to me. Here’s to your Health? -
OK, I actually checked the manual, found the script folder, the VS file script shows up in the menu but the “MVP” file isn’t there. Maybe MVP is not a script? got it at the VASST site…
