Yes, the camera is from the front and the layers recede as the null rotates. Think of an image gallery similar to the cover flow except the motion is circular.

Yes, though i dont i have them spread accurately in a circle

Thanks Dan, but I have another question if you dont mind!

I am trying to run a parallel expression to the one you gave me above (turn off sequentially from bottom up and then back down again). I am using the brightness effect to dim the layers that are visible, but I dont want it to affect the top visible layer.

So the idea is the layers turn on from bottom up but they are all dim (for arguments sake this is set to -1) except the top layer which is still unaffected. I tweeked your expression and it works the first time around (i.e when they are turning on from bottom up) but not when they are turning off from top down. Is this making sense?

Many thanks Dan, but its still not quite what i wanted. I should’ve explained better.

I want them to turn on from bottom up and then turn off immediately after from top down.

    Thanks Dan!

I thought I had it, but not quite! What I wanted was the layers to turn on sequentially and then off again sequentially.

So in the set-up, I have 20 layers arranged top to bottom. I would like them to turn on one by one and then once all are on, they start to go off again sequentially.

I thought the expressions above would do it with some tweeking but finding it really difficult!

    Thanks,

How would i go about reversing it if possible, so that the bottom layer goes off first instead of the top layer?

    It works like a treat!

If it is not too much to ask Dan, can you also help with the following:

I am looking to move a layer so it appears to drop from the middle of the screen to the bottom. However, I want to be able to control the start of the drop and the speed with controllers. The start is to be designated by a marker preferably.
So lets says a text layer is on the middle of the screen. At about 4 secs it drops by moving up a few pixels first and then all the way down to the bottom of the screen (or completely off screen)

This is related to the above time stretch and hence why I am asking here.

    Thanks 🙂

  • Hi Dan,

I was looking for a similar expression, however my set is slightly different. I was wondering if you can help!

I have the following set up with stroke-only circles and masks:

The black bit is just another circle.

I want to rotate the black circle every 5 frames but not a transitional rotation rather every 5 frames it rotates to its new position (increments of 40 degrees, i.e. overlapping the blue circles) holds for 5 frames and repeats.

How do i got about achieving this?

    Thanks

I am not sure what you are after, but there may be a solution without using expressions. Why dont you pre-compose your layers and make the composition duration 1 frame. Then add all these pre-comps to your main comp and then select all > keyframe assistant > sequence layers.

This will distribute the layers across your main comp one frame at a time.
