  • Thanks. Is 10.6.8 snow lep. In settings I have gama correction set to ‘accurate’ but other than this don’t know how to adjust the canvas gamma.

  • OK, I figured it out. I was using the wrong set of buttons.

Here is how you do it I think. I’ve got it mostly done and I **think** it works but will confirm latery.

    1. Select a button like “corporate–> Corporate Video Button HD”
    2. Delete the video portion.
    3. The text portion you can either delete or keep. I am leaning towards keeping the text (renaming it to something useful) and turning off the view in the “layers” window right before completing the final build (deselect the eye next to the text and it won’t show up in the final render.)
    4. You can now edit the “underline” in this button. click the “=1” in the layers window to select the underline/highlight, make it bigger/smaller/thicker/thinner.
    5. change its color by clicking “menu”–>Edit Menu Color Set and changing the color for selected state or active state of highlight group 1.
    6. Preview these with the preview buttons in the menu window or check preview in the menu color set.

preview the project and you can see that the underline shows up selected/activated as you move the cursor around or use the arrow keys.

You need a “link” for the button in order to see this all work, you can temporarily link to other buttons on the same menu or link a button to itself to see this work.

    Did I miss anything?

FCP and Motion do not take advantage of multicore processing technology so today you would want to go with the fast clock and minimum number of cores to acheive cost-effective performance. Its kind of sad to watch your project just sit there with a big wait bar while activity monitor shows a core here and there doing something.

But as the other poster says, FCP8 is coming out and we don’t know if it will have the same drawbacks.

Happened to me as well. I get a good chroma key on my preview but when you play the movie the key is bad. All items were in prores so it could not be the codec. This was very frustrating since everything looked good while settings were changed etc… but as soon as you play the movie its all gone.

My workaround was to switch the keyer from chroma key to something a little simpler, I think there was more than one option.

OK OK. I know that they are nifty, low power and slow, but I’m not going to trash them! I’m looking to see if there is a role for them outside the obvious. People here are creative so I asked.

Right now the best I can do with them is format them as eFAT and use to copy data between Mac and PC as they do exceed the capacity of many USB thumb drives. Or use for backups…small backups.

September 21, 2010 at 3:23 am in reply to: How to Explode, Fragment Text in Motion?

The “blast out” behavior would be good if it blasted each letter in the word to tiny bits, but it shoots the individual letters out instead. So rather than blowing up each letter into tiny fragments it merely moves the entire untouched letter out of the screen. It does a good job of showing that the letters are not really 3d as it rotates them out, where you can see that they have no thickness.

Its 2010, we really should have true 3d text.
