In Compressor make sure Frame Controls is ON and you select Best for deinterlace.

Not surprising. The first editor I used was Premiere – sometime in the early to mid 90s. That didn’t last long. Then came Media100. When they started having problems, we switched to FCP. When X was introduced, we stuck with FCP7. Only recently did we move to FCPX. I couldn’t be happier. It’s speeded up our workflow and it was fun wrapping my head around FCPX. Can’t say it’s totally wrapped, yet. I love this forum. There isn’t a day that goes by I don’t learn something new here.

If you have Motion 5 it has a Trail Effects that will do what you want. If you don’t have it, Google “Trail Effect for FCPX” and see what pops up.

It’s possible that the conversion software created an interlaced file that then exhibited the moire. BTW, FCPX handles MXFs from cards or camera easily.

Todd, I read your excellent rundown of the C300. Do you know if the SDI out is 8 or 10-bit?

Nice, Ty. I chuckled when you said audio books were up and coming. One of my first clients back in the early 70s was Listening Library. I was recording the great Alex Scourby who told me a story of the really old days of recorded literature. Back then, the talent recorded directly to a wax master which could hold about 15 minutes of program. When talent had read 12 minutes or so, the pressure really mounted because a flub would mean going back to the beginning of the side. Man, those early narrators could read.

February 9, 2013 at 7:25 pm in reply to: What to Replace my Greenscreen with

While you won’t have the control you’d get in AFX or Motion, you can experiment with some generators, effects and transitions available in FCPX. In the Generator tab check out Solids and Elements. They can be modified by Effects. Look at Blurs, Distortion, Light, Looks and Stylize. Play with Transitions in Blurs and Lights. You may be able to adjust the transition parameters to create a frame you can freeze to create a background. Good luck.

Disk Warrior is a lifesaver. If there’s one program every Mac owner should have, Disk Warrior’s it.

I’ve recently had slow down & lockup issues. I found that running Disk Warrior & then Repair Permissions helped considerably. Disk health is apparently very important with FCPX. Also, I use Event Manager X which only opens the event you’re working on.
