Also checkout ALZO Quad PAN-L-LITEs. We typically use one 2-foot unit from each side of a small green screen. You can supplement that with a middle unit on the ground. We can get a good flat line on the waveform with just the 2. These are terrific lights. Each has 2 dimmers each controlling 2 globes. We often have 2 incandescent globes on 1 dimmer and daylight on the other. Lots of flexibility that way. We’ve owned our first pair for nearly 3 years (recently bought 2 more quads and a twin) and they’ve held up brilliantly. A local rental house uses them, too, with no maintenance issues. They are well-built and 1/2 the price of Kinos.

I’d run trusty ol’ Disk Warrior. If your directory is anyway corrupted FCP loses its way. Just today, after working fine for a long time, my FCPX started crashing (I know that’s not your issue). After DW all was well. Over the years DW has fixed many mysterious issues. It’s worth a try.

Have fun at IBC. I agree with your assessment. It was a slightly reverberant room and it sounded like some clever gating being applied as well as their “deverb.” There probably comes a point – with a very reverberant space – where you start to get more artifacts and funkiness. Let us know what you find.

The SanDisk SSDs on the Blackmagic approved list are:

Sandisk Extreme 240GB (SDSSDX-240G-G25)
Sandisk Extreme 480GB (SDSSDX-480G-G25)

The II appears to be a bit faster. If it’s new, Blackmagic probably haven’t had time to evaluate it. Contact support and see what they say. I don’t think you’ll go wrong using either of the above SSDs.
The new one is only a bit less than a percent faster. Only reason to get it is if it’s significantly more robust. And on that subject, checkout the new AngelBird SSDs being introduced at IBC. Reports say they are extremely robust and designed for professional use. Of course, they are much more expensive. But, it’s your media after all.

I don’t know about any white balance issue. As for the camera battery, I don’t think you will hurt it by overcharging. However, I believe Philip Bloom mentioned in his review of the camera that battery life was bad. Most folks seem to use an external battery with, typically, a 90WH battery. That kind of battery should run the cam for 3 hours or more. Checkout Anton Bauer, Switronix and IDX batteries.
