Have you trashed prefs and repaired permissions? Also, I’d run Disk Warrior if you have it. That’s what I do when weirdness happens.

I’d marry the picture and sound for your bought takes and then use those to edit. You will have to balance the audio cut to cut, but that shouldn’t be a big deal. The only time I put audio in the primary is if all I’m doing is editing picture against a prerecorded track.

FS700 is very nice, particularly, if you want high frame rate capability. There are a couple of external recorders that will record ProRes as well as 2K. To record 4K you need the HXR-IFR5 Interface Unit and AXS-R5 4K/2K RAW Recorder. That adds around $7500 to the price.

I’ve found you can get hollow sounding audio in cars due in part to phasing between the mics. There’s a lot of sound bouncing off reflective surfaces. If you hear that, try moving the mics a bit and see if that helps. Having the windows open will definitely help.

If it’s high contrast and interlaced that could cause the flicker. If there’s a thin horizontal line at the top, that could be the culprit. You could try cropping a line or two and see if that helps. Otherwise, try a slight feathering of the edge.

Were you working in standard def or high def? It wasn’t until I used hi-def timelines that the small type resolved well.

Sounds like the clip may have been overwritten. Try zooming in tight and see if you can grab it. If you can, adjust it to the length you want and re-position it.

I believe Soundtrack Pro may have a de-esser. It’s been a while since I used it, but it had much more capability than FCP7. BTW, FCPX has an excellent audio capability. Lots of quality Logic plugs. Also, if you own them, Waves plugs – quite nice for audio.

iZotope RX III Advanced is my go to noise reduction program. That said, I have many others, too. Certain noises are better cleaned by other plugs.

There are lots of posts on the COW about how to trash preferences and repair permissions. Additionally, I always run Disk Warrior whenever anything weird or unexpected happens with FCP. Digital Rebellion has some terrific tools to do this and other maintenance functions. Some are free.
