I had problems with intermittent audio dropouts using an Edirol U-25 which was connected to my G5 via USB. I suspect that the dropouts were caused by conflicts between the U25 and other devices using the USB buss. I never got it to work properly. The same may be happening with the Traveller fighting something else on the Firewire buss. What I do now is use a AD/DA with an optical in/out and feed that to the optical connectors on my G5. It works great. I think the Traveller has optical I/O. Try connecting that to uour computer’s optical I/O.

How does other motion in your shots look? If someone waves an arm or walks through a shot, is it also shakey? This could be the result of incorrect field order if you see this effect on all motion. If it’s just the pan, I don’t know. Also, it would help if you explained how you encoded the mv2 – settings, etc.

I use a stopwatch as I count off 32 bars then divide the time by 32. This gives you the time per bar of music. Convert the time to frames and you have a guide. Music is rarely perfectly regular so every so often the beat you’re cutting to will drift. Just find the downbeat (or backbeat) and start again from there. There’s another factor that comes into play. The eye and ear don’t perceive time in the same way. Usually, a visual cut looks best it’s 3 or 4 frames ahead of the audio beat.

We are about to start doing remote ADR. (We record here. Session is monitored there via ISDN with timecode and audio to confirm takes. We ftp OMF.) There will be no gain changes or processing happening on our end – just the record. Does Automatic Duck help me out in this situation or just a straight export OMF from FCP?
