    Your capture settings should match your tape format. You mention DVCProHD and mini-DV and HVX200. I’ve not used a 200, but I’m fairly certain it only records DV to tape. So, try using a DV or DVCPro (NOT HD) setting and see what happens.

    If the frame rate of your camera didn’t match the frame rate of the video on the screen, you’d get rolling bars. If this is the case, unfortunately, they’re not going to go away.

    Do they want 4×3 or 16×9 for the screen format? I’d shoot in HD so when this client starts using HD it will be available as an archive. That said, I’d probably shoot 720PN and edit in a 23.98 timeline for an eventual 24P DVD.

    If they want a 4×3 screen, be sure to shoot 4×3 safe in the middle of your 720PN 16×9 screen (if you go this way). If you shoot SD, I’d suggest 16×9 since that will make it easier to upconvert to HD later.

    What might be happening is the Lastclip.txt is probably not reflecting your media. It’s a text file so you can edit it. Now, I’ve never done this, but it’s worth a try. I looked at a couple of them here and the file form looks like:

    name of last clip (something like 0017UX
    1.0
    18 (this is one more than the number after the 00 in the last clip)

    Shane Ross is the guy who probably knows the answer to this. But try it. Just be sure to save the actual lastclip.txt you have. Put it in a different folder.

    I suggest you mount the original P2 volumes and transfer just the clips you need into FCP. That will create QT files on your capture disk that you can edit (and archive for future use). The original P2s remain your “camera masters.”

    The Intensity card only has HDMI ins & outs. You’d need an HDMI to DVI-D cable. However, I have no idea how that would affect the visual quality. You might post on the HD High-End forum and see what answer you get there. Perhaps there’s a dealer in your area (or anywhere) that carries both the JVC and Intensity who could test this out.

    Color grading requires a high-quality monitor. If you search the FCP forum (and others) you’ll find many posts with opinions about monitors you can use for grading.

    Final Report (I hope). I reinstalled Leopard and FCP and the issue is resolved. FXPlug transitions work as expected. I’m in the process of reinstalling all my plugins. I’m checking FCP after each install to see if a third-party program might have caused the problem.

    Your outside light will change thru the day, and day-to-day as was alluded to by an earlier post. You might want to have different frames of different nd that could be easily changed out when a cloud covers the sun or you have a rainy day, etc. The tent suggestion helps eliminate this issue. Also, be sure to budget some time during the day to make these changes. The “real world” always slows down a shoot.

    I have a 2.5G Dual G5 with 4GB RAM running Tiger. It has a Radeon 9800 and works happily with the MXO.
